i saw it friday night with some friends of mine
the stripping is excellent and worth the ticket price alone, but dont go to see it if you want the plot to make sense or to tie up/resolve anything. but really, are you seeing this for a plot? i wasn't ![]() would've been nice to have though. maybe there's a sequel in miami?

I gotta ask, I'm guessing most people who saw this film were women? If so, were the women quiet or were they screaming during the stripping? I'm curious about it.

In my theater, the screams were there until after the drugs were introduced, then there was no screaming.

I guess so. They also didn't understand Olivia Munn's comment in the beach scene about what she likes to do to other women. Only me and my two girl friends got it.
![]() Seriously, but I can understand how they may have felt cheated out of what looked like a fun male stripper movie. But leaving the theater they all still said they loved it, that it was worth it, etc. Quote:

Enjoyed this movie quite a bit. Tatum is surprising me with how much he can actually act. That Pettyfer who I thought had no hope wasn't too bad either.

Well, it was based on his life loosely, I believe, so it probably was really familiar and easy for him to get into.

None of the dancing/stripping part. Everything else from the way he delivered his lines to his interaction with the other characters was very convincing to me.

There were only 2 guys in mine, me being one of them. The other guy was way too insecure, kept making comments. It's like come on man just shut up enjoy the movie. I don't care who you are, there's no way you can't enjoy those bodies, they're all like perfect

Olivia Munn made a comment about what she likes to do to other women? Can you elaborate please?

Do you guys think Channing Tatum will be perceived more favorably for his acting talent after this movie? I have seen his other movies like She's the Man and G.I.Joe, and while his performance didn't blew me away it probably has something to do with the script he was given as well. I might check out 21 Jump Street, but so far I'm not sure I'd want to see Magic Mike even in DVD.

surprisingly good.
And yes, I think tatum's rep is improving. This is his year. Somewhere Taylor Kitch is crying.

The problem is Taylor takes himself too seriously. CT clearly doesn't.

Hey, he deserved everything he got when it came to Battleship, but he got shafted when it came to John Carter.

21 jump street he was fantastic in as well and Magic Mike seems to be another hit for him. It's easy to see why the studios might want to bring Tatum back for the second GI Joe movie. He's getting better for sure, not sure if it's just acting or just getting to work with better directors and scripts. |

Saw this movie last night. I went with a female friend for "cover".
It was great being in an audience with that many women. You could feel the estrogen, and I enjoyed hearing their titillated reactions to the male nudity. One of the reasons I went to see it with my friend is we often like to discuss sex/gender issues, so it was an interesting experiment to see a movie where it is the men who are sexualized. In the opening scene there's a glimpse of Tatum's butt and the audience went crazy. While I was more interested in Olivia Munn's topless scene, I can't deny that every man in this movie is a straight-up Adonis. Subversion of gender norms aside, I also loved how the movie portrayed a relatively honest view of working class life in America. The dialogue felt natural, like the way people would actually speak in these situations. I was skeptical about the granddaughter (?) of a movie studio CEO taking on an important role, but Cody Horn was right for this particular part and did well enough. Despite the formulaic plot, this movie feels fresh, perhaps because it explores a little-discussed topic. Channing Tatum is proving that he actually has some acting ability; he does a great job as Mike and hints at an inner vulnerability. Alex Pettyfer is fine as "The Kid", and Matthew McConaughay definitely has one of his more memorable roles in a while. The movie was funny a lot of the time, appropriately dramatic when it needed to be, and whatever your sexuality, the choreography in those stripping sequences was amazing. Recommended.

I find Cody Horn attractive in a meek, girl next door way. I think she fitted the bill in the film, though my GF said she was ugly.
