He did in the 90s - The Alien Factor. It was about an alien invasion. It didn't get as much fanfare as it would today and would probably still be in print if it had been printed when the Marvel movies started coming out.

I've read a bunch of old superhero books from the 90's. I was collecting them for awhile. Got a bunch then just got tired of it. I had the Time's arrow trilogy with the X-men and Spider-man, Mutant empire was a good read along with a bunch of spider-man and hulk books. I used to also pick up the movie novelizations which I found added alot to the story, if the story was any good. I read some of the X3 novel and just put it back.

Wait. There was a GL Hero's Quest novel? That was one of my favorite storylines in the comics when I was getting into GL. I must have!
Speaking of GL, the series of Novels "Green lantern - Sleepers" was pretty good. 1 had Kyle, 2 had Alan and 3 had Hal. The villain of all 3 was pretty much Sinsetro. Pretty decent series of novels.

I have bought many different superhero novels over the years, and most are boxed up somewhere....but I can't remember seeing any GL ones. I'll have to keep a lookout in the stores for those.

The GL novel came out as part of the same series as the Flash Stop Motion and Batman Stone King books.
I like the GL one better than the other two as the story gets amazing. Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
It's well written and has a good story and likeable characters. If you want a copy here's an amazon.com link http://www.amazon.com/Green-Lantern-...rn+heros+quest

Hellboy: The Bones of Giants by Christopher Golden is great. Hellboy and Abe team up with a researcher and a pair of dwarves in Norway to combat figures from Norse mythology. The Norse entities want to hasten Ragnarok, so Hellboy and Abe must stop it, of course.
I think prose lends itself more to an exploration of the hero's psyche than do comic books. You need a good balance of action to heavy stuff in the comics whereas with prose you can do more character driven stuff with your superheroes. I am only talking about comics featuring superheroes, of course. Not stuff like the Locke and Key comics. I will say that I vastly prefer the Dark Tower novels to the comics.

Star Wars does not equal Superhero. Media tie in novels yes, and they are good, but they are not superhero novels.

Reading Batman: Dead White by John Shirley currently. It's alright. I'm surprised he got away with so many F words and N words. I have a feeling there was no editor at DC who even read the book prior to publishing - they just cranked the thing out.

Hi cloverfan,
Thanks for starting this threat and my favorite superhero novel was spider man and have lots of novels, comics, posters and DVD's of spider man in my personal collection. I have watched all the parts of spider man and like sound track of spider man III most. |

It's Superman by Tom DeHaven...awesome book, really cool having it set in the 30s. Lot going on in there too, with Clark, Lois, and Lex. Really just an ode to anyone who loved/misses the Fleischer series.
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon...another great read. Shows the roots of the comic industry in NYC through the eyes of these two struggling artists. Lots of references and hat tips to DC and Marvel. Really really enjoyed this book too.

Ex-Heroes by Peter Clines.
It's a zombie/superhero genre blender that I really enjoyed.

Novels, not graphic novels. Ya know, books with no pictures.

Hi everybody! I hope this is O.K. but I just wanted to say that my novel, The Symbiot Awakening, will be absolutely FREE to download from the 14th to the 16th of January on Amazon Kindle! If you love superhero adventure and furiously paced action set off against a background of strong characters then this book is for you!
"The Symbiot Awakening is a furiously paced, action-packed novel for lovers of wild adventure and strong characters! When Angela Wright is attacked by Verity Hart, the sister she thought long since dead, she is accidentally infected by the Meteor Bug and becomes a Valkyrie Phenotype Symbiot, gaining incredible powers as a result! However, she is immediately tipped headfirst into a world full of danger, a world only just realising the terrifying power of Symbiots, and soon Angela finds herself in a desperate struggle to save not only all that which is dear to her but the whole country from the rapacious clutches of her sister and the Sharapov family. Confused and barely in control of her powers, her only help comes in the form of the feared vigilante Philippe Hunter, the man whose life was destroyed by Verity years ago and who now harbours a deep and lasting hatred towards her..." http://www.amazon.com/The-Symbiot-Aw...biot+awakening

Here's an excellent website that breaks down every Batman and DC prose novel. I think 90% of all DC novels are accounted for here, but it's confirmed that every Batman book is accounted for.
http://batmannovels.com/ - Batman Novels - Novelizations - Batman / DC Universe - Other DC Universe I'm proud (and embarrassed) to say I own all but two on the website.

Spider-Man: The Darkest Hours by Jim Butcher is a pretty fun (albeit quick) read. If you like the Dresden Files you'll probably dig this. It's sort of a sequel to JMS' Amazing Spider-Man #30-35 so if you haven't read that you might want to pick up those issues or the Coming Home tpb first.
Soon I Will Be Invincible was already mentioned but I liked it well enough to give it a nod. There is also a short story collection called Masked featuring some well known names including Gail Simone, Peter David and Bill Willingham. I own this but haven't read it. Also I agree that the lack of good supers novels sucks. I'd like more original stuff but if DC and Marvel got into it that would be nice too.

Hey all,
Since this thread is only 3 pages, it's obvious that there's not that much of a selection when it comes to super hero novels. Especially when it comes to original heroes! However! I do have a suggestion for you all and it actually involves superheroines! Or rather, a superheroine. ![]() This was a 10 year project of mine that I started way back in 2002 before the 1st Spider-man movie came out. Nanosuits, energy blades, futuristic armies, and political conspiracy are all featured in the book. If you're interested, why don't you come on by and check it out? http://www.thesilverninja.com ![]() Reviews and feedback are welcome! |

I have not seen No Man's Land on sale in years in stores. Is it still available?
I know Gotham By Gaslight is out of print which is a shame.
