I think he was meant to be a parody of all the anti heroes that had been really popular in the 80's and nineties like wolverine, punisher and such.

Well, I'm going to assume they want it to be as tongue in cheek as his stories usually are.

Really? This is WB's possible 2014 DC title?

Come on Meyer and Robinov... grow some balls and get someone unorthodox to direct a JL, Flash or WW movie. You guys lucked out when you nabbed Christopher Nolan to direct Insomnia and then took a gamble with BB... and the rest is history.

They need to find a successor for Nolan, not muck around with C-characters like Lobo.

This is a short by the director. More of his style I suppose than his committee-run sequels.

Brad Peyton would have been a better fit for a movie on Plasticman, than Lobo.

It's not impossible but to go from a movie like JOURNEY to LOBO? Don't buy it.

As much as I hate to admit it, you're probably right. WB really needs to rethink this.

Someone like Ritchie would've NAILED Lobo. He wouldn't be afraid to push the envelope to R territory, but WB probably wouldn't let him go that far.

This film has been in the works for a long time. It has nothing to do with Avengers. It has nothing to do with the other DC heroes. All it is is said company getting another property off it's shelf because they either think this guy can do it justice or he pitched them his take on it and they liked it. No differing this movie from any other other than it's a really cool character regardless of origins.

Okay...

Positive: I like Lobo as a character, and I loved The Red Star (Trank directing).

Negative: Where in bloodly hell is Flash and/or Wonder Woman???!!!!!!!!

Director for Lobo is the fool that directed Journey 2. Seriously, WB, F**K YOU.

Are you just trolling?

Haha. You sound surprised?

They aren't going to take another 400+ Million plus risk again after GL. And yes, it was 400 Mil including the advertising. The trades mentioned it.

Flash, WW and all the other big superheroes are doomed.

Jon Favreau had only done Elf and Zathura before Iron Man. That short I posted is more to the tone of your usual Lobo story mixed with a heapin' helpin' of Burton's style. I'm not saying I think it will be good, I don't know. I hope it will be good. I'm saying don't judge the director on his early projects where he was just a yes man. Judge him on something he had control over and the images/cast/footage/story details that leak.

Also, the Jimmy Hayward was brought into Jonah Hex last minute when most of the details were already set in stone. Neveldine and Taylor (Crank, Ghost Rider 2) were going to direct but left the project, but their screenplay and what they developed up until that point was still in place. It's their thing more than Hayward's.

I find it funny that a lot of people fail to realise that greats like Ridley Scott and David Fincher started out making music videos and tv commercials.

Look where they are now.

They're script was totally butchered though. It would have been more of a hard core, dirty western with supernatural elements. Instead of what we got.

Because maybe he presented them with a pitch that blew them away?

That is why. Usually for projects on the shelf, they ask "anything interest you?" Then they hear the pitch and bring the guy on. So he did have merit and stand out.

I'm willing to give the new guy a shot, but this reeks of Johan Hex all over again. Perhaps the casting will quell my anger and fear but I really don't understand WB's motive here. DC's obscure titles and characters haven't exactly brought in the dough.

Watchmen, V for Vendetta, The Fountain, Constantine, History of Violence, Road to Perdition and Stardust have ranged from good to fantastic... but they haven't produced big numbers at the box office.

The Red Star will probably be a great film but let's be honest here, it'll likely underperform or make WB a 'so-so' profit.
