There will definitely be more of a love triangle in the sequels, I'm sure.

I'm not taking anything for granted until I see the movie.

This will inevitably be an intense action-centric blockbuster to attempt to draw in the audience of the Nolan Batman films. They're basically finally doing Superman right. They should keep the same balance of everything that the Nolan Batman films did. It was a winning formula. |

le sigh...if you say so. I'm not a part of the Nolan is god crew and there were numerous things wrong with the execution of the relationship in SR....one of them being name Richard White. For me, the relationship between Supes/Lois/Clark when done right any enhances the story. It shouldn't and doesn't need to be the focus, but if it's not there at all then I won't be watching future films.

I never said the relationship stuff was done well in SR. But the general public consensus after SR came out was too much relationship/love focus and not enough action for a summer blockbuster.
I remember the studio promising for years after that for the next Superman film to be the complete opposite of SR's focus and go 'Wrath of Khan' and action-driven with the material. Doesn't surprise me that they've pulled so much from Flyby for this movie, including the Kryptonian General, Black Zero, his army, the Kryptonian wars etc. I think the Kryptonian stuff will take central focus. His central conflict seems to be his humanity versus his Kryptonian ancestry. Last edited by Deathstroke; 11-24-2012 at 05:58 PM. |

Watching Night at the Museum 2 on FX, I forgot how hilarious she was in this.

I try not to discuss SR in any MOS thread because it usually turns into a futile arguement. I don't know what the general consensus was for that movie, but I always thought it was the film lacked action. That's why all the main parties kept promising Wrath of Kahn in the sequel. Anyway, my point is the love triangle relationship when done well does enhance the story. It helps with humanizing Superman and enhancing Clark as characters. As a fan of Lois Lane that is an integral part of the story I want to see and I want it to be done well.

Meh. I just want the badass Superman for once, not the sappy version. It's long overdue.

There's no reason why we can't have a badass/epic superman story presented on screen while having some well written romance/relationship happen between Superman and Lois. It's just all about finding the right execution and balance.

We know there is a kiss.
Therefore, unless it's incredibly badly written, there has to be SOME build up to the kiss. If I had to guess, I'd say we'd at least get the same level of romantic focus as Thor.

And that would be totally fine with me. I like the little by play in Thor.

Thor wouldn't be the best archetype. Portman's character got a lot of hate as the weakest link in that film. They really rushed and forced that relationship.
I really think the perfect balance that the studio and Goyer/Nolan developed for 'Man of Steel' is the same balance we got in the Nolan Batman films. Those films were summer blockbusters and really kept the action and intensity going first and foremost. |

It's a bit ambitious going full liplock in the first film though. I woulda stretched it out over 2 films at least. But Snyder I trust! |

How is it ambitious? Every superhero film has a cliched kiss between the superhero and his love interest.

Well to be fair Tony didn't have a romantic subplot in Iron Man 1. And X-men was a team superhero film, so there was a different dynamic. It wasn't the standard lone superhero and his love interest formula. |

I think the best love plots in movies (and tv) are the ones between 2 characters that you really want to see hook up but don't necessarily do for a long time and the writing/direction just teases it out for a while whilst showing how perfect the 2 would be together.
I don't think a kiss necessarily means that the 2 will be together from that point though. It could just be them trying to express themselves in all the fluster and confusion that's going on around them and be a naturalistic but unconsidered decision. I think the end of the film will be ambiguous where the 2 will go from there. |

Kids should be able to appreciate some nice booty as much as adults

Haha. Where did it come from? Google her in Psycho Beach Party when she was in her prime. She flashes her bare behind. She didn't have much of an ass before.
