The main Hulk series is the one by Jason Aaron, F that Red Hulk crap (even though it's by Jeff Parker and everybody things he's making the character better). I'm still really annoyed that all the effort is put into Rulk fitting into the Avengers instead of Banner.
If your looking into any old school Avengers stuff, go with anything by Roger Stern, Bob Harras, Kurt Busiek and Geoff Johns.

While I agree Rulk is pointless, Parker's Hulk series is leaps and bounds better than Aaron's IH.
Which is confusing as hell as Aaron's golden on everything else he writes. |

The art has destroyed that title. Why the hell Portacio still gets work is beyond comprehension.

Rulk fits on the Avengers a hell of a lot better than Banner does, since everyone's determined to keep Banner's Hulk a mindless ape. Ross understands tactics and is willing to submit to Captain America's leadership.

Maybe McFarlane and Liefield would like to do a back up on the book.

Liefeld's too busy contributing what I can only assume are fresh and innovative ideas to like half of the New 52 over at DC, isn't he?

But that's only plotting. Because, Y'know, he's not actually talented enough to do anything else.

I think Fraction's Defenders is really good. Does this make me stupid?

Hm. No, it doesn't.
I think he hasn't delivered anything resembling a satisfying payoff or conclusion in any of his issues, but the cast and the concepts that are in the book are extremely good. That's must be what you're picking up on.

Yea i think that's it. I'm really liking the characterisation. The first arc was great i thought, haven't seen Prester John in yeeeeeeeears. I thought how it finished was a bit muddled, but Surfer calculating a course and throwing the ship so that it would just travel through space for hundreds of centuries was... awesome. Nice to see Surfer doing some sick cosmic stuff like that.
I haven't really dug Fraction since his Iron Fist days, but this book has totally surprised me. |

I skipped it because I'm tired of wannabe Defenders teams. Joe Casey gave us one a while back with analogues of the actual Defenders, and here Fraction's doing the same. When Dr. Strange, the Hulk, the Silver Surfer, and Namor get back together as the core of a team called the Defenders, I'll try that series out. 'Til then, f*** the pretenders.

I know you won't give a ****, but I swear Red She-Hulk is at her best characterized and most useful in Defenders. I'm glad the characters at least bei salvaged somewhat.
Also, 3 out of 4 ain't bad.

I've heard a ton of good stuff about The Defenders too but I'm so tired of Fraction at this point I don't care. I'm starting to get there with Brubaker but to his credit, the Cap relaunch has been improving each issue.

Yea, this Defenders does have Strange, Namor and Surfer. Hulk showed up in the first issue. Plus it has Iron Fist and like CConn says, an actual well written Red Shulkie. And Strange is actually being written as a useful character, instead of the pale shadow of his former self under Bendis' pen.
It's probably my favourite book at the moment. |

Betty's showing up in Hulk now and then and Parker's doing a good job of reestablishing some kind of bond between her and her father. But whenever Betty turns into Red She-Hulk, she just becomes a one-dimensional b**** and I totally lose interest. Also, she's still not the Hulk, which is what the Defenders actually needs to be the Defenders instead of some busted-ass wannabe group.

Journey is a Thor supporting cast book, he makes rare appearances. It mostly features kid Loki. Although there's little to no Thor, it's still the better "Thor" title.

Hate it.
Don't mind Skaar because he at least came out of Planet Hulk and that rocked. Betty should be just Betty and Ross should be just Ross. Same for Rick Jones. Stop making these supporting characters heroes. Pepper Potts, I'm looking at you too!
