Extra / Additional Scenes you would've Added in The Avengers?

Revised with a few more:

#1 - Heroes Recognition

More scenes with the civilian population recognizing the heroes. Something like a boy goes, "Mom look, it's Iron Man!" That's what I loved about the Spider-Man films, his films always have scenes of civilians recognizing the character as a superhero. The Avengers had this scene only towards the end in news footage. Would've loved to see it more before or during the battles.

With keeping in line to Joss Whedon's comedy style, I would've added this extra scene:

During the scene where Cap rescues the hostages, I would've added a part where we see Iron Man fly by the window as he's blasting off aliens. Boy looks over his Mom and points to the window excited!

Boy: "Mom, look! It's Iron Man!"

Then, Captain America arrives on the scene to save all the hostages from the aliens.

Same boy has a weird look in his face. Pulls on his Mom's shirt and asks her:

Boy: "Mom... who is that?"

Camera then pans to an old man in his 70's also in captive with a look of surprise and awe!

Old Man: "Oh my God, it's Captain America!"

#2 - Build-up for the Portal Opening

A longer scene when the Tesseract aka Cosmic Cube opens the portal to build up the suspense. Something like having all the heroes including the people in the city just stare up into the hole waiting to see what comes out. It would've felt more grand if they played out the anticipation of that and extended a little longer rather than have the aliens come out as soon as the portal opened.

I would've had a scene where Dr. Selvig told Iron Man (not Black Widow) that the only way to stop the Tesseract was Loki's staff. And Iron Man would've fought Loki a while longer trying to get the staff.

Scene ends when Iron Man finally grabs a hold of Loki's staff but it was too late as the Tesseract had already opened the portal.

Build-up would've been enormous!

#3 - Mourning aboard the Helicarrier

A scene where SHIELD was mourning the death of Coulson and their commrades, and even maybe a make-shift funeral aboard the Helicarrier, where bodies of the fallen could just be laid and covered for others to mourn. It couldv'e just been a scene happening by dusk while the sun sets with just solemn music in the background and no dialog with most of the Avengers present with just Fury, Hill, Natasha, Stark, Rogers attending, with Thor possibly looking down from the sky as he tries to grasp the gravity of what his brother's action has done (No Banner as he's still somewhere, and Clint obviously still recovering). It would've at least added a layer and made the film "feel" like it was a whole day longer than it was. That scene could've been inserted between the scene where Loki leaves the Helicarrier, and then the scene where Fury talks to Stark and Rogers and throws out the bloody cards.

#4 - Hulk learning to Control himself after the F-14 Explosion

The scene with Banner waking up inside an abandoned building could be used to explain how Banner manages to take control of Hulk. The security guard mentioned that Banner was "awake/aware" or was conscience when he crashed into the building.

A scene where we are shown Hulk falling from the sky, and as he is about to hit a small town, small house (something populated), the Hulk consciously knew he had to do something or people will die from the impact. So as he is hurdling towards the population, he raises both arms and does a "thunder clap" - the sonic boom hurdles him into a different trajectory landing himself in the abandoned warehouse instead.

Maybe this can help explain to people always asking how Hulk all of a sudden regained control again in the film.

#5 - The Mind Gem on Loki's Staff

Another complaint was that people didn't quite understand how Loki manipulated the team into getting angry towards each other. It was just "implied" that maybe the Mind Gem on Loki's Staff did it. I would've used more explanation and make it that it was indeed the Mind Gem, rather than just imply it. Like maybe after the Helicarrier got struck, and as Banner was trying his best to control the Hulk, have a brief camera panning to view the Mind Gem glowing and giving Banner that extra pushed needed to make him Hulk out uncontrollably.

#6 - Explanation of Captain America's Vibranium Shield

Not really big, but another complaint I read was that people didn't quite understand how Cap's shield blew Thor away.

Maybe add a scene where Iron Man briefly touches upon Cap's shield.

I would've added a line where after the force of Thor's impact with Cap's shield leveled the forest, as Iron Man was getting up, he would've said something like:

Iron Man: "Vibranium huh? Well Adamantium, my ass."

Then maybe even after they were all back in the Helicarrier, you have Stark inspecting Cap's shield, talking with Rogers about how brilliant his Dad was in using Vibranium and how rare that metal is now. Stark then takes out a measuring stick to measure the shield and then uses that same stick to measure his chest, as if to imply he may want to make the Vibranium shield into a piece of the Iron Man suit.

#7 - Explanation of each Member Post-Avengers

I would've liked to see the individual characters have their own Post-Avengers moment as Nick Fury and Maria Hill were narrating what is going to happen after the Avengers.

Scene Black Widow and Hawkeye:

Both are shown doing Black-Ops mission elsewhere, either separately or together.

Scene Thor:

Thor is seen back in Asgard looking as the guards escort Loki away. Thor then turns away, digs down deep in his armor and looks at a picture of Jane Foster whom he kept from the original Thor film.

Scene Captain America:

Steve Rogers is shown in a cemetery. He is looking down, his face is in sorrow as he stares on the tombstone. The tombstone reads "Peggy Carter" (If not, it can even read "James Buchanan" or maybe all of the Howling Commandos).

Scene Hulk:

Banner is shown in a convenience store, looking to buy more stretchy pants.

Scene Iron Man:

Scene ends with Stark and Pepper in the Stark Tower where the "A" for Avengers remain (the way it normally ended).

I think a few extra scene's of Cap getting used to the new world and the people that inhabit it would have been great.

And also I think a scene in between the 2 Hulkouts of Banner getting control of Hulk again like the end of TIH.

I agree with what you guys are saying.

- More scenes of Rogers adjusting to the new era and more scenes of him in action including more shield action.

- References of Rhodey, Betty, and General Ross. They did it for Jane Foster, so it would have been nice if they said something about the three.

- A flashback scene of how Thor was going back to Earth. His entrance was greatly done and I think having a scene before his arrival on the jet would have killed the epicness in my opinion.

Maybe there was a reason why Coulson's funeral scene was not shown...

Perhaps he is still alive... conspiracy?

Somewhere before we see what Stark does post-Avengers I would have liked to have seen what all the other Avengers ended up doing. Such as Steve maybe seeking out the waitress, Hawkeye and Natasha heading up another mission, not necessarily a SHIELD one, Thor and Loki in Asgard (cameo from Sir Anthony Hopkins?), Banner working for Stark then the Stark scene in the tower.

That was no F-14 that exploded; it's an F-35B that is technically not even operational yet in the US military. SHIELD gets all the best toys before everyone else.

The Helicarrier,even damaged,still had quite a few jets and such on the deck.Why not sent them to the battle where they'd make cannon fodder out of the invaders?They have the toys,use them.Loki's little army wasn't that tough when it came down to it.Would have liked a surprise appearance by War Machine.That would have been good.Hulk using Loki for a pinata was worth the ticket all by itself!lol.

It may not seem all that great, but with what it's replacing in the US inventory, it'll be a step-up and is a necessary addition. I was actually surprised they included it in the film.

I really wished they had some type of exchange there, especially when Tony and Cap were arguing just before Loki broke out. The only thing that mentioned any sort of relationship between Cap and Howard Stark was Tony talking to Banner about Steve while working in the lab.

I think that Whedon did talk about cutting that scene in an interview and did say it'd be on the Blu-ray/DVD release.
