Yeah, the first cut was quite long. And you’ll see in the DVD extras there was times when I really wanted to spend time with some of the ancillary characters, who are more human to sort of give context to everything that’s happening. But, ultimately, fans were like, “Yeah, what we’d like to see is THE AVENGERS, SO WHY DON’T YOU JUST SHOW THAT INSTEAD?” [laughs] And so there’s a lot of good work on the floor, but there isn’t anything on the floor that I feel we gutted the movie.

Yes. You know what, and someday this may bite me and I may not be able to accomplish it, but it is always my intent to put the director’s cut in theaters. I don’t like to have different versions of a story, it kind of tweaks me. I like to know this is the story, this is it.

the reason the hulk works in the avengers but not in solo movies is simple;

you have banner part, which has him coming to terms with being a monster and you have the hulk part, which is pure destuction.

I find the banner aspect of the movies really interesting and loved this in ang lee's hulk but most people want to see hulk so are bored stiff with the banner section of the movie.

in the avengers banner is surrounded by interesting characters so when banner is in 'banner mode' no one cares because you have thor action, cap action and iron man action, so you can explore the banner phyche without people checking out or getting bored and then when hulk finally arrives it feels satisfying.

if hulk does a solo movie again the same problems will arrise.

But doesn't every superhero movie have scenes where the hero is out-of-costume?

Captain America had plenty of scenes with Steve Rogers. Iron Man and Iron Man 2 had quite a few scenes with Tony Stark out of the armor. Thor spent the better part of his movie wearing human clothes and being stripped of his god-like powers. And venturing into DC territory, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight featured more of Bruce Wayne than Batman (and I can only imagine that TDKR will follow suit). It's the director's/screenwriter's job to make people care about these guys when out of costume, and I think all of these properties have done a pretty good job at doing that so far. Why can't the same be done with Bruce Banner?

Honestly, I think part of the problem with the last two Hulk films was that Banner just wasn't that interesting, whereas Ruffalo's version of the character is funnier, more relatable, and more endearing.

true, most movies have an alter ego but with the hulk the human aspect of the character is desparate to get rid of the part the audience is paying to see. that gets tiresome.

Like everyone i'm hoping against hope that we could see an extended cut. However I think with Marvel being cheap and Joss probably being over the whole thing it means we wont get it and we will just get 30 minutes or more of footage dumped into the deleted scenes.

Would love to see a "We have a Hulk" featureatte on both Joss and Mark re-imagining the character and the ILM design work.

Gag reel should happen.

A good "Road to the Avengers" type documentary on how it all came together.

A good feature on choreographing the fight scenes such as IronMan vs Thor and Hulk vs Thor.

I just hope we get an all-encompassing documentary like on the Iron Man blu-rays and not just a handful of brief featurettes like Thor and Captain America. The special features disc on this thing deserves to be loaded with content. I'll be alright if there is no extended cut, as long as there is at least a half hour's worth of deleted scenes.

A cast commentary would be great. I'd love to listen to RDJ and Clark Gregg riffing together on the movie. Though I dunno if RDJ would have time to do one; he might be too busy with other projects.

I agree. Actually, the character iconography from the end credits would make for beautiful DVD/Blu-Ray covers, imo.

I wouldn't count on it. They kind of explained it in the movie when Thor first showed up by having Loki ask something like "How much dark magic did the Allfather have to conjure to send you back here?" Obviously they didn't film that because between bringing Anthony Hopkins back (who I'm sure would command a hefty salary) and rendering Asgard, that would have made the budget skyrocket. Not that they couldn't afford it.
