The actress needs to be someone who can be roughly the same age as Evans who is 31. Felicity Jones (30) and Anna Kendrick (27) fit the bill much more than Isla Fisher (36) does.

First of all, none of them are 30, the oldest one in the group is 28. Second, it doesn't matter how old they ARE, it matters how old they LOOK. And there's a reason none of them can get away from playing some kind of students in their films. It's because they look pretty damn young, and all come across much younger than Evans.

Though I'd probably feel a lot better if they were looking at actresses who LOOKED older in addition to these. But they're not. So I very strongly suspect Sharon from the movie is going to be "lesser" than comic Sharon in regards to skill, experience and badassery.

I'm a little baffled why everyone keeps saying that looking younger means one might be less skilled, experienced, or badass. Scarlett Johansson is only a year older than Kendrick(and they look similar in age) and her age or her youthful appearance didn't detract one bit from her coming across as highly skilled and pretty damn badass.

These actresses look young. Therefore, I assume the character is written as beinf young. Therefore, I assume that she'll be a beginner and inexperienced. Because generally speaking, that's how young character are often portrayed, and often are.

And I disagree about Scarlett. She actually looks her age. And Black Widow is meant to have a deceptive appearance anyway. Her bag is having her enemies underestimate her before she demonstrates what she is capable of. Not to mention, between being trained from childhood and possibly having slowed aging, its easier to believe that someone like her could be that experienced.

The oldest of them will be nearly 31 by the time the film comes out, the youngest will be 25. That's not incredibly young.

Why would you want a SHIELD field agent who is 6 years older than SHIELD second in command Cobie Smulders (age 30)? Cobie, Scarlet, and Chris's ages kind of triangulate the age grouping that Sharon Carter should be in.

It seems this crops up every time. On message boards, characters tend to get fancast 10 years (John Hamm as Superman), sometimes even 20 years too old (Mark Valley as Captain America).

Sharon Carter is maybe in her mid-30s in the comic book NOW. This is after 10 years of comic book continuity. Why everyone thinks she should be cast older than she is now in the comic books is anyone's guess.

I don't want Sharon to be played by someone in their late thirties, I want Sharon to be played by someone that actually looks like they're around Steve's age.

Lol. But I guess Hamm as Superman or Valley as Cap would still be better than the fan suggestions of Triple H as Thor that kept popping up before Hemsworth was cast.

But anyway, Jones and Kendrick will be 29 and 27 when filming begins in March 2013. I don't see how that's too young to play a relatively experienced SHIELD agent.

Keep in mind, Chris is playing a character who (physically) is only about 25.

There's a post somewhere on the hype from 2006, where someone suggested Chris Hemsworth for Thor and they were ripped to shreds and summarily dismissed.

Everyone was suggesting Viggo Mortenson, Sean Bean, Triple H, Tyler Mane, all middle aged men. This is the way fan-casting always goes. If you look at the Star-Lord threads on the Guardian boards, everyone's casting 45-50 year olds to play a 32 year old character. It's just the way minds work. *Shrug*

It's entirely possible that they are planning to have Sharon use her appearance in a similarly deceptive manner so that people underestimate her. We just don't know yet. We have no idea what they are planning. Besides, just because an actor or actress has in the past played characters who are younger, that doesn't necessarily mean they'll be doing the same here.

If Kendrick gets the role and they have her playing Sharon as her own age(27) or even a year or two younger, I have no problem believing that she could by that time have become an experienced S.H.E.I.L.D. field agent.
