Why would you want a SHIELD field agent who is 6 years older than SHIELD second in command Cobie Smulders (age 30)? Cobie, Scarlet, and Chris's ages kind of triangulate the age grouping that Sharon Carter should be in.
One of the other two SHIELD field agents we know is older than her as well. Age clearly has little bearing on people's rank/position at SHIELD. And again, I'm not complaining that they are too young for the role. I'm saying they all have a younger look/presence than Evans, so it seems deliberate that Sharon will be younger. Which probably has something to do with how she's being written. Like perhaps she's an agent-in-training or something. It was an observation, not a complaint.

And I mentioned that Isla Fisher would be great. Because someone brought her up and I just saw a movie in which she was great, and I thought she and Evans would be a good match. That did NOT mean, "we must have someone Isla Fisher's age for the role." It just meant exactly what I said: Isla Fisher would be great. But she's obviously not the type they are going for with this role, so whatever.

Felicity Jones is only 2 years younger than Evans.

Thechnicaly true, but there's a difference between looking lik you're 21 and just out of college, and looking like you're actually 28 and have been on the job for several years.
Keep in mind, Chris is playing a character who (physically) is only about 25.
Chris looks his age, and I think Steve is supposed to be closer to 28.

I don't know how many more times it can be said: We're not talking about how old they ARE. Age is just a number. We're talking about how old they look/seem. Felicity Jones is still constantly playing teenagers (she played at least 2 last year) and college students. In fact, that's the case with all 3 of these ladies. The last college student Chris Evans played was 5 years ago, and even then, it was a stretch. That's the difference. Next to him, they all seem noticeably younger. That's the point being made.

I'm not of the opinion that it's a bad thing. Just an observation of the type they seem to be interested in for Sharon. Could be a clue as to how they will be approaching the character.

I was pointing out that she is around the same age, not that she looks it. t thought Bull didn't know. I was surprised when I found out as I though that she was younger.

Everyone was suggesting Viggo Mortenson, Sean Bean, Triple H, Tyler Mane, all middle aged men. This is the way fan-casting always goes. If you look at the Star-Lord threads on the Guardian boards, everyone's casting 45-50 year olds to play a 32 year old character. It's just the way minds work. *Shrug*

You just stirred up some awful memories. Back when Thor was announced I only lurked here and the incessant talk of Tyler Man/Triple H/some roided-out wrestler playing Thor kept me from sticking around. Folks were insistent that no normal actor could possible get into the shape they thought was needed for the role, so Marvel just had to pick a non-acting wrestler and work around him. Like all they needed was a gigantic meat puppet with a blond wig and a cape and the film would be a hit.

That sort of thing is why I dislike fancasting in general. Fans tend to focus on superficial things that can either be fixed or accounted for with costumes and makeup, like an actor's build or hair. People also get fixated on certain actors they think are the only ones for a role (*cough* Krasinski! *cough*), so much so that they become outraged when the studio makes any other choice (*cough* Krasinski's wife! *cough*). It can be fun, but after a while it can get to be annoying as hell.

Agreed. The one that drives me nuts is height. Who cares about height in movies? People can look bigger. People can look smaller. The first thing people always say when they meet a celebrity is 'I thought they would be bigger'.

That's how little height matters.

Exactly! If an actress who is significantly shorter than Evans ends up getting the part, there are plenty of camera tricks they can employ to make the difference not so noticeable.

A good example of this would be Tom Hardy as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. He's a few inches shorter than Christian Bale, but they filmed him in a way that made him look like he was actually larger than Bale.

Or, more recently, people seem to assume that *only* brunettes with pixie haircuts can play Wasp with a pixie haircut. (Ergo, tons of fancasts for Morena Baccarin.) Fanboys have probably never heard of haircuts and dye.

Xeno, I do agree that fan casting, while fun for the most part, can lead to headaches (especially when news on a project slows down!) I'm absolutely willing to give Marvel Studios the benefit of the doubt when it comes to casting, because I think they've been incredibly savvy in that department.

I also agree with FlickChick re. casting a younger looking Sharon Carter. It's very possible that it's storyline-dictated, in that she's either going to be a 1) young agent-in-training, 2) spy who uses her appearance to misdirect people, or 3) someone who's not necessarily in the field all that much. Just have to wait and see which incarnation we'll get. All I ask is that Marvel give us a good actress for the part; acting will make or break movieverse-Sharon for me.*

*However, if Marvel found ways to diversify the MCU, I'm all for it. Not necessarily for Sharon Carter, but for future movies.

In general people just fancast Whedon actors for everything. Thankfully it has slowed down a bit the further removed we get from those shows. Used to be David Boreanez and James Marsters and Nathan Fillion for everything.

Now it's just Nathan Fillion

The Hemsworth suggestion is on this page:

http://forums.superherohype.com/show...php?p=10702165

And the responses (at least the ones I've read so far), don't seem that negative at all. It seems a couple others thought he had a decent look for it, too.

I simply cannot believe this casting is for Sharon Carter. None of these actresses comes even close to the physical build or features of the Sharon we know. They do, however, look very much like how the Red Skull's daughter, Sin, looks, based on the comics.

We tend to read way too much into these rumors, anyway. The rumors supposedly said the casting was for the female lead. It may be casting for A female lead, but not Sharon. Anyway, until we have some official confirmation, I am sticking to my belief that Hayley will ultimately return in some capacity, probably as Sharon.
