Love Interest for Captain America II

It seems every other week there are 20 more new "front-runners" for the female lead.

Maybe they aren't the front-runners but they are getting screen tested or reading for the role. Or it could just be their agents or managers trying to spread their name around and build interest.

Tony Stark and Pepper Potts never really had a long-term romantic relationship in the comics, IIRC. She had a thing for him but the two of them never dated or did much more than think lovelorn thought balloons about each other. Then Pepper ran off with Happy, leaving Tony to play the field. That's why I was surprised when Pepper was announced as Tony's love interest when Iron Man was filming. I thought they would be likelier to choose Whitney Frost, Bethany Cabe or any of his countless other lovers for the film instead.

There was definitely interest, and perhaps that's enough.

Steve is a lot more like an older brother for Carol, AFAIK.

It might be fun to see, though.

With the exception of a couple, all these actresses seem so young and I don't like that, especially with Jessica Brown-Findlay. To go from the awesomeness of Hayley, it's just striking.

I actually like JBF the best out of all the actresses rumored so far.

But that most actresses are young, look young or a prone to play young characters makes me wonder if the character in question is supposed to be young.

Sharon was just starting out as an agent when we met her in the comics, so I don't think it's surprising if they cast a young actress (Peggy, conversely, was a superior officer).

In one of her early appearances, Fury describes her as one of SHIELD's top Agents. So I assume experience and as such, age.

Even if she wasn't, the going trend is to just base characters on the version that are most popular and as such most familiar to fans. So Tony, for instance, gets his red and gold armor much sooner than he did in the comics.

Peggy was a French resistance member in the comics, not Steve's superior officer.

In her debut she's nervous and clearly not very experienced at all, as I recall, though I don't have that trade with me.

Which has nothing to do with why a (slightly) older actress was cast to play the movie version of the character, who was supposed to be an authority figure.

Not sure if she's been brought up as a potential Candidate, but anyone else feel that Jessica (yes another Jessica.lol) De Gouw could play the role? She looks like she could be related to Hayley's Peggy in the MCU:

I'm....not sure the world is ready for Captain America to be in a gay relationship just yet. But I've got to wonder why you think he should hook up with Vance Astro, when Bucky is a more obvious choice....?

My mistake, I thought you were referring to the comics.

Well, Hayley Atwell was 29 at the time of filming, and I think she looked her age. Only one of the actresses rumored is 29, and she's known for playing a college student who is barely out of her teens.

It also fits with the time period, when there were plenty of people in positions of authority who were pretty young. The protagonist of Band of Brothers, for instance, was a Battalion Commander with the rank of Major at the end of the war at the age of 23.

In the race analogy, if someone says "there's a new front runner" that means, to me, that the previous front runner is no longer a front runner. I think that's what's happening here. If they're meeting with actresses, and then decide to meet with some other actresses, then it looks like those first ones aren't getting the job... or else why meet with others?
