He was amazing a few years ago. Not been the same player since though.

I can't believe Downing is in the squad, WTF! I would definitely have taken Adam Johnson over him, a much more exciting player. I really don't know what people see in Downing?

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has told ESPN that he would advise his manager Roberto Martinez to steer clear of the vacant manager's position at Liverpool describing the club as a 'desolate place, without heart'.

Aw nah he didn't.

Martinez would be a swing in the dark I think, hes has completely turned Wigan around near the end of the season & if they start this season with their end of season form you could be talking about a mid-table finish for Wigan.

However he has had no experience in the upper half of the table & the sort of expectations that a club like Liverpool have.

Tevez won't apologise

Same story as UE posted but at Sky Sports, Tevez thinks that holding up a sign that said 'RIP Fergie' with a smurk on his face was banter & in good taste and he shouldn't have to say sorry because Ferguson comes up with similar level insults to players..

Interesting..

If getting Wigan midtable is the mark of a Liverpool manager then step forward Steve Bruce! I can't believe that Rogers is getting linked with all the top jobs yet Paul Lambert seems to get completely overlooked, he's an up and coming manager who actually has a Plan B!

According to Sky, Michael Carrick refused to be called up. Interesting.

Edit: Also (and I know Hunter will be happy), Michael Owen will not be offered a new contract with United.

Apparently due to his age and where he is in his career, he didn't want to go if he wasn't going to start. Which is fair enough.

In other sad news Michael Owen has not been offered a new contract

Barry is probably likely to start the first 2 games when we play 4-3-3. I think Ox could be a breakout for us from the bench, a bit of a secret weapon as he's still developing but very gifted.

Me? About time, two seasons later than it should have happened, in fact.........*breathes* Money down the drain. Now lets get a real United #7, I say Samurai 7! get the marketing team on it.

Spidey's post yesterday sort of summed up why any of these young Prem managers won't work, the fans want either an old guard appointment or an elite like Pep, a young Prem manager moving up would need time to settle and I just don't think the faithful will give him that as they don't want them in the first place and the first set of bad results will see the knives out.

That's exactly it, it's like any manger though you have to give him time to settle to establish his own system into the club/team. Look at Chelsea for example, their lack of giving managers proper time to settle has hurt the club more than it has helped it.

You get differing managers with differing sets of opinions on players, one player might be a key or star man for 1 manager, however under another he might be a bit part player.

Personally, I'd actually like AVB to take charge of Liverpool. Simply because I think Liverpool's new owners have a little more sense than Abramovich & will at least give him 1 whole season.. unless of course they are in the relegation zone after about the half way point..

We already know AVB is talented, you don't win European trophies or leagues with Portuguese teams unless you've some level of talent.

Whoever they appoint, he needs to be given some time. If they give him about 30 games like they did with Hodgson, they're never going to progress further.. infact I'd expect them to fall behind Everton permanently if they fail to give the next one a fair chance..

I forgot Michael Owen even played for Manchester United.

Walcotts family have said they are not going to watch him in the Euros because of the possible racist threats.

Michael Owen should've been playing with Beckham in the MLS a long time ago.

Imagine if you had Micheal Owen, Owen Hargreaves, Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate in one team. They don't have a one good knee between the four of them

I hope Ox breaks out. Think he can be a top player one day. Can probably play as a striker also in future.

Yeah he's a very modern attacker in that he looks like he'd fit on the wings or as a #10.

I thing some managers do need more time to improve things. Some managers like Alex Mcleish should never of taken certain jobs in the first place as you knew it would never work out.

With the type of money Liverpool owners spent they probably expected atleast a top spot.
