Default Brit Marling returns in "The Sound of My Voice"

I like that this forum gives us the ability to generate interest among independent films we like, so this is my turn.

Following up on 2011's Another Earth, which was my favorite movie of 2011, actor/screenwriter Brit Marling does it again, this time teaming with director Zal Batmanglij for an intense, mind-**** of a thriller.

The Sound Of My Voice is the kind of movie where you walk out thinking, "Wow, that was fairly good." Then you start thinking about it afterwards, and about 3 hours later you go "Whoa, OMG, what colour is the sky now" and your mind gets totally blown about the new realizations you get after you've fully digested everything you've seen.

I won't summarize the plot, you can get that at http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/sound_of_my_voice/. Instead, I'll give you reasons why you should make the effort to find this movie and see it if it comes to your area.

- If you liked 12 Monkeys or The Sixth Sense, you will like this movie
- If you liked Take Shelter, you will like this movie
- If you have Silence of the Lambs or Manhunter on DVD, and just like to watch the Lecter interrogation scenes over and over again, you will like this movie
- If you hate, hate, millenial-generation hipster independent documentary filmmakers, this movie will give you one of those "consult your doctor" viagra conditions

You know, I've looked forward so much for Another Earth ever since it got good reviews from last year's Sundance but but I did mentioned that when I watched it though, I was disappointed. The film lacks the depth it so desperately attempts to flaunt and most importantly, there's no emotional payoff despite consistently setting up emotional-anchored scenarios. Cahill think that relying on silence will work with the movie, like having Marling's character staring off into space for thirty seconds to show just how "emotionally deep" her problems run, which just leaves off an impression that he's more concerned with the imagery than the character's actual emotional struggle.

With that said I think Marling is a good actress and definitely one to keep an eye on for the future and I was impressed with the trailer for this. Since I don't live in the U.S there's rarely the chance that an indie movie opens here, or if so, it's very far off. I mean Take Shelter (fantastic film btw) is just going to open here.

I've heard this is horrible, from reliable sources. I check it out on dvd or if it hits netflix.
