Possibly. I know I am in the minority, but I actually like Lagoon Boy's awkward aquatic-themed puns. Maybe it is because it allows him to contrast with the others since he's the only one who talks in corny comic book dialogue. Maybe because in a show as bleak as this one is, it allows him to almost never be taken 100% seriously when he says stuff like, "Neptune's Beard!" all the time.

It could also be because he resembles "The Creature From The Black Lagoon" and it may have been a name the media gave him, or even his lover Megan the TV freak gave him.

Many superhero teams will have at least one member who utters corny catch phrase stuff. Wonder Woman kept saying, "Great Hera!" a lot in "JUSTICE LEAGUE", for instance. The one exception is Thing's "It's Clobberin' Time!" - for some reason it always works.

He may have been called Lagoon Boy because his real name, La'gaan, sounds like the word lagoon. For all I know la'gaan may be the Atlantean word for lagoon. However Lagoon Boy's real name was never revealed in the mainstream DCU, so your theory about his resemblance to "The Creature From The Black Lagoon" is probably where his name originally came from.

On another note, I love how the bio descriptions list Sphere and Wolf as Senior Class members as if they're expected to teach something to the freshmen, or expected to know things like the first aliens that invaded, that caused the Justice League to form.

Also with the next episode featuring only one senior class member and three newbies in Batgirl, Bumblebee, and Wondergirl. I'm hoping that the next episode fleshes out the three newbies I listed above.

I find it interesting that Sphere and Wolf are treated as members instead of as a tool and pet. If Superboy were to join the JL, would they go with him or stay on The Team (who really need a name).

Also, does the general public even have knowledge of their existence?

That is weird sphere is counted as a member since its a tool. Sure it has some ai traits to it. But he isn't totally living. And wolf I would just count as a pet.

Probably. I didn't know he never had a real name in the comics. Again, I wonder how people who have never left Atlantis have a concept of a lagoon when all they know is living underwater. Maybe Aquaman passes around a lot of books about the surface world.

In fairness, Sphere is an artificial intelligence and Wolf seems to be uncommonly intelligent for a normal canine. Other characters - including Batman - will mention Wolf in strategy sessions as if he can comprehend enough of what is going on. And Wolf often seems to share Superboy's reaction shots. Considering Wolf was genetically modified with "cobra-venom", it wouldn't be far fetched to assume he's smarter than a typical wolf should be. Besides, dogs are often uncommonly smart in fiction; just ask Lassie or Milo from "THE MASK".

Still, one would think there would be a difference between them and, say, Wally, in terms of a "senior class".

I imagine it will; and in a "girl power" way since they'll be kicking a lot of butt.

The showdown between Psimon and Megan will probably be interesting.

It does seem as if the show, at least for some of the characters from Season 1, is centering episodes around one of their returning enemies. Superboy just got an episode where he fought Whisper and Manheim again. Megan is getting another show down with Psimon. Sportsmaster is back in circulation so you KNOW a fight between him and Artemis is probably inevitable. You could even argue that Kaldur being linked to Black Manta is a reflection of this, although Kaldur has joined his enemy instead of battling him.

So, in theory, this would leave Nightwing and Wally. I suppose you could truck out any Batman villain for Nightwing (perhaps another appearance by the Joker, Mr. Freeze, Riddler, or Bane), but what about for Wally? Count Vertigo, who is technically a Green Arrow villain? Vandal Savage claimed he had a grudge against the Flash in "COLDHEARTED", but nothing has been made of that since so that could have been a throwaway line by Savage to keep Kid-Flash occupied and stalled on fighting him. Personally, I thought it was a mistake to make Mr. Freeze the breakaway "star" of "The Ice Villains" in "TERRORS" instead of Captain Cold. I mean, Cold often leads "The Rogues" in FLASH and has developed his own popularity; Geoff Johns invested a lot into him. It would have been a good chance to introduce people to another Flash villain besides Grodd. Instead, the show went with the already well known Mr. Freeze (and Icicle Jr. and Sr., who are Green Lantern/JSA villains if I recall). 20/20 hindsight, I suppose.

Lagoon Boy is a surface world fanboy (which is true of the mainstream DCU as well), so he likely became aware to his resemblance to "The Creature from the Black Lagoon" and just dubbed himself Lagoon Boy.

World's Finest has pics and a preview for "BENEATH", the next episode: http://www.worldsfinestonline.com/ne...llnews&id=1339

It does seem to focus a lot on the newbies who haven't gotten as much airtime lately (that is, all of them aside for Lagoon Boy, Beast Boy, and Tim Drake/Robin), along with Miss Martian, who is rarely the subject of an episode

Blue Beetle seems to be the one they are pushing heavily, as this will be the 2nd episode in a row where he gets focus and he arguably has gotten most of it from the newbies. Considering he's a new DC character (or new-ish; he debuted 5-6 years ago) it makes some sense. It makes me despair that Marvel NEVER does that with ANY of their new characters and then wonders why they go nowhere. The last new character Marvel bashed people over the head with in various mediums was the boring and emotionless X-23, which doesn't help them any because the X-Men are licensed under Fox. You could argue cases for Reptil and the new White Tiger, but they're both appearing in the good but lackluster selling AVENGERS ACADEMY.

I digress. It does seem like Genocide has gotten a slight redesign, looking more "butch" than I recall from the comics, which is fine for an "evil Amazon" type. Naturally that will focus a bit on Wonder Girl. So, what was that about how we'd "have to get to know the new characters on the fly"? Because I'm seeing focus episodes on them, which is what actual cast members get. It's expected, I'd just rather not see producers deny the obvious in interviews.

There is a part of me a little irritated that we're getting all these great returning villains from Season 1 teaming up and aside for Miss Martian and Wonder Girl they're all fighting characters who have no connection to them. It's like having the Sinister Six show up and instead of fighting Spider-Man, they fight, say, the X-Men. That reduces those characters to just being goons to pummel, which is a bit "whelming" for repeat villains. It makes me fret about seeing "whelming" moments like Sportsmaster taken out by Batgirl or Vandal Savage actually getting into a climatic showdown battle with Beast Boy or something.

Fair enough. It does seem that much like in the real world, one of the primary exports from Earth into space is American pop culture.

Think about it. We have people from New Genesis being fans of Westerns, we have a Martian who has become morbidly attached to a sitcom, and we have Atlantians who are fans of 1950's B-horror movies.

Am I the only one who thinks Batgirl's costume looks kind of weird? Everyone else in the Bat-family gets pretty logical, practical-looking armor on their costumes, but Batgirl gets... this weird-ass half-corset-looking thing. It's so distracting. Every time she shows up, I find myself wondering what the hell that big black corset is for. Is it extra armor? If so, does she just not care about getting shot in the boobs or something? What the hell?

That isn't Genocide, it's Devastation. She is still a Wonder Woman villain if you were wondering. She has been drastically redesigned from her comic counterpart, who usually appeared in the form of a young girl.

Genocide was an interesting idea that came out kind of stupid. Isn't Devastation a goddess?

No, she's Wonder Woman's equal. According to comicvine.com she was created by Cronus, who "formed the image of a child out of Themyscirian clay. He breathed life into it and called her Deva. He then had his dark children each bless the new creation with evil gifts. Thus Devastation possessed each of Wonder Woman's abilities, but with a dark twist to them."

Here's her full bio: http://www.comicvine.com/devastation/29-15757/

Uh... isn't that almost exactly what Simone later did with Genocide?

Anyone else think the designs on this show would work better for the comics instead of what we got with the New 52 crud?

Female superheroes are almost never designed for functionality. They're designed to be hot. That's why you have the champion of the Amazons running around in a swimsuit with a tiara, and so many heroines fighting in high heels, or exposed navels, or mini skirts. Meanwhile, and with few exceptions - especially in DC - male heroes are often covered from their neck down to their feet, and sometimes more so.

Got it. I always get my villains named after terms involving mass slaughter confused.

I wonder if either of them would date Holocaust from AGE OF APOCALYPSE?

Of course. The reason is simple. The character designers who work on a TV show have to keep in mind designs which will appeal to the common everyday viewer who may not be a comic book reader and may be of any age, ethnicity, gender, and/or orientation. Whereas the people who work on DC comics gear things exclusively, and proudly, towards the hardcore comic book fans who run their editorial offices and are often at best a decade behind the times.

Oh, and welcome to Super Hero Hype.

Wow... they are really flying through these brand new episodes. From one extreme to the other.

I wonder if that means they'll start showing Green Lantern season 2 right away.

Pretty good episode. I'm looking forward to seeing where this Longshadow/Apache Chief storyline goes. I really enjoyed Bumblebee...she's the refreshing contrast to Rocket that I was hoping for!

Batgirl was cool as well. I'm not sold on Wonder Girl yet. I'm old school, so it will take me a while to get used to her character...I'm used to Donna Troy.

Every time I see M'Gann now, I expect her to do something shady...quite a shift in character from season one.

Im guessing they are trying to get out atleast 10 episodes before going on hiatus.

But this was a good episode, the Alpha team was the better storyline but at least we got to know BB a little more, so I am hoping we get the same with the other freshmen. WonderGirl was great in this episode, such a refreshment with her newness to everything still.

This was also our first episode without Superboy which was also refreshing. But I am waiting/hoping for them to get him and Cassie together.
