The Nuff Said RPG Application
Character: John the Skrull
Powers and brief origin: John and three other Skrulls came to Earth in 1963. Their plot: to take the place of the hugely popular rock group, The Beatles, and use their fame to take over the world. As you might imagine, things went a little bit differently.

Group affiliation: MI-13, for now.

The why and the what: Well, because he's a Skrull posing as John Lennon. It's a great concept and he's the kind of C-list character I love. He affords me a lot of creativity and that's also what I hope to bring to the RPG.

Portwell House, Whitehall, London.

John the Skrull shifted about in his seat. He was sitting at a large, blacktopped table with Pete Wisdom, head of MI-13 and Lance Hunter, the Joint Intelligence Committee Chair. Standing in front of the group was the American Henry Peter Gyrich, giving a presentation on the anatomy, strategies and habits of the Skrull race. John wasn’t quite sure whether he should be outraged or bored. At the moment, as Gyrich delved into Skrull infiltration techniques, it was mostly the latter.

“Lights,” Gyrich finally said after another half hour of the gruelling presentation. The last slide, which Gyrich had left on, depicted the anatomy of the Skrull per the Leonardo Da Vinci painting. The American’s eyes caught John’s – even with the sunglasses on, you knew when Gyrich was looking at you – and the Skrull tried his hardest to send a telepathic message: “You would do right by taking a chill pill, like.”
Of course, John wasn’t telepathic and even if he was, it’d be unlikely he could change Gyrich’s mind about the ‘green skins’.
“A delightful presentation, Henry,” Lance Hunter said, the words dripping with sarcasm. Gyrich smiled nonetheless.
“Bit heavy on the ‘known information’ though,” Pete Wisdom commented. Gyrich shot him a scornful look, and it was then that Wisdom decided to take off his sunglasses. He didn’t want to invite any comparisons with the American government agent.
“Just making sure you all have the details,” Gyrich said as he looked to John again.
“Just missed the information on their reproductive process. So the --” Wisdom was just about to mimic the ‘reproductive process’, causing John to snicker, when he was sternly interrupted by his superior Hunter.
“Peter.”
“Right.” Wisdom turned to Gyrich. “So, tell us, what’s SWORD want with us?”
“As of this moment,” Gyrich started, “we have a number of Skrulls operating at a high profile.” He pointed to one of his assistants, who reactivated the next part of the slideshow. The first slide depicted a hulking blonde, green-skinned teenager, standing amongst a group of colourfully dressed peers.
“Teenage Avengers.” The words were laced with venom.
Wisdom smirked. “What, the grown ups can’t handle it on their own anymore?”
Gyrich ignored this comment and nodded to his assistant. The next slide consisted of a blurry photo, depicting another group of teens. Standing with a young girl was a boy, in the middle of transforming his green skin into brown. After a short pause, another photo was shown. It was a dated picture of a Skrull woman standing between members of the Fantastic Four, the Human Torch’s arm around her waist.
“Yeah, okay, I see them standing there.” Wisdom motioned towards the assistant. “But before you show the next one,” he said as he turned back to Gyrich, “mind telling me what the point is? I was hoping to be done here sometime before dinner.”
“The point is, Mr. Wisdom,” Gyrich replied, “is that we have no idea whether these Skrulls feel any allegiance to this planet. And another problem is--” The next slide was shown, of a man, dressed in all black with a cowl and cape, flying through New York City. “--is that there are number of them working under the radar as well. And there’s a number we haven’t discovered. We have no way of knowing how many aliens have infiltrated the superhuman community, or any way of knowing what their intentions are.”
Wisdom shrugged. “Ask them.” He looked to John. “That’s what we did.”
All three men looked to John, which didn’t sit right with him at all. He felt prompted to speak.
“Yeah, we wanted to take over Earth, but we found out the world was a pretty nice place to hang out.”
“But you have no way of knowing if your former conspirators still feel the same way.”
“What, those guys? They’re living the high life, mate.”
“Let’s cut to the matter at hand, gentlemen, shall we?” Hunter said.
“Take it away, Gyrich.”
Gyrich nodded. “We want your man.”

Now, John the Skrull wasn’t bored anymore.

He was more outraged, like.

Brief History (provide at least two sentences): Orphaned due to a car accident from an early age Clint Barton spent much of his youth bouncing around orphanages. Before taking their his chances and fleeing along with his brother, Barney, when the opportunity arose to escape to a nearby travelling carnival. Where great potential was seen in him, from one of the carnival’s star attractions. The younger Clint thrived learning the skills of his swordsman master, and a tremendous archer called Trick Shot who also a member of the carnival. Clint somehow managed to work to keep his reputation clean, despite this pair of morally grey mentor’s and an upbringing that moulded him into a confident, self sufficient perfectionist reliant on his own hard work and effort. Once a one-time crook with a simple scheme, caught and pardoned with a purpose. Hawkeye has now become a trusted compatriot, a strong willed leader, an Avenger.

Group your character is aligned with (if applicable): The Avengers, The Secret Avengers (when needed), possibly the West Coast Avengers to come... who knows...

Explain what you plan to do with the character you've chosen and why you've chosen this character:
Because the world needs Hawkeye, dammit! Where would the Avengers be without their cocky blue and violet archer?

I’ll be playing him as his cocky 616 self, take no bull, anti-establishment hard-head.

Pre-Barney Barton Trickshot. Pre-sonic arrow deafness. Pre-Bobbi Morse. Pre-West Coast Avengers. He’s been an Avenger long enough to prove himself, but not long enough that he doesn’t feel he still has to…

“I can’t hear you Barney, speak into my good ear…”

“That’s your problem, Clint… When someone’s saying something you don’t want to know, both your ears turn bad…”

Pulling the string back and the fletching by his cheek, his smile widened.

“All you ever want to do is run, Barney. You just don’t know how to deal with the fact that we’re onto a good thing here...”

Today


“Hawk. They’ll be coming down your alley any second, non-lethal ordnance and don’t let a single one through.” the voice of Tony Stark crackled through his communicator.

“As if you had to tell me, Tony… We’ll be home in time for your next drink. Unless you’ve got a wine cooler already built into that suit.”

“Don’t give him ideas, Clint...” came the chiding voice of Janet Van Dyne.

“Please… I’ve only had two today.” Came the reply from Iron Man.

“By today, do you mean Wednesday or Thursday..? It’s 2am Thursday now…”

“…”

“Yeah, I thought so… Just send ‘em through, already.”

“Here they come!”

“ITS IRON MAN! GET OUT! BACK DOOR! NOW!”

Maggia and A.I.M members flood out of the abandoned building where they’d been making their deal, whilst Hawkeye takes a single arrow from his quiver. Expertly places the nock on the string and draws it back. A smile crosses his face.

“Everything’s fine.” He muttered to himself and released. It was true now, even if it wasn’t all those years ago. Everything perfect.

The arrow hit the centre of the alley, a brief puff of gas was followed with thick foam which billowed forth, ensnaring most of the fleeing crooks.

“What was that, Clint?”

“I said you lot can all go take 5, this is my time...” As he picked off the stragglers with stun-arrows with the laughter of a man who loves his job hanging in his voice.

Tony wouldn't have a tube to drink alcohol from in his suit. ... he'd probably just make it into an aerosol and inhale it.

He died in Captain Britain & MI-13's first arc, though. First issue, actually, if I'm not mistaken. But that's cool. I guess I'll have to coordinate with Harlekin for MI-13 missions.

I'm pretty sure John made it to the fourth issue (end of the first arc, indeed). But, far as I'm concerned, the Secret Invasion didn't happen. That was the Brood, man, and it was some ugly ****. Nasty beasts be popping out people's stomachs and ****. Nasty. If ya'all is cool with that.

Also, I have to voice concern when it comes to Hawkeye. Yeah, yeah, I know we're not looking at continuity too tightly, but no Mockingbird, no West Coast Avengers? What has Clint been doing these last ten years?

Well, I already mentioned the Skrull invasion in one of my posts. Could just say John survived instead of dying, though. I mean, his death didn't have that much of an impact; Pete Wisdom would've been gung-ho to stop the invasion anyway.

And then I guess he could've gone off to fight some Brood.
