Default Multiplicity (1996)

I was watching different YouTube videos about Michael Keaton, and remembered this hilarious gem from the mid-90s. Sadly, it bombed at the box-office, but I still think its a wonderful effort from both Keaton and Harold Ramis.

For those unfamiliar with the tale, its fairly simple. Doug Kinney (Keaton) is an overworked, under-appreciated construction worker, husband, and father. A temperamental blowout at a work site attracts the attention of the building's owner, a geneticist named Leeds. The good doctor introduces Doug to the practice of cloning, so he can have some time off while his "other self" stays home with the family. Of course, everything starts going haywire, leading Doug to eventually produce two more clones, all juggling the increasing responsibility of their shared secret.

Andie MacDowell helps steady the zany plot as Doug's wife Laura, along with small roles from Eugene Levy and John de Lancie. It's a great trip, with Keaton constantly shifting from one persona to the next.

Love this film, really is great and Keaton's ability to play four completely different personalities was brilliant.

Oh, I love this movie! Comes on TV intermittently and I always watch. Keaton is versatile as hell.

Please, how naive you are. Keaton is so method, he actually cloned himself three times to make this movie, and then murdered them at the wrap party.

Yeah, this was a great Keaton flick as I recall. I haven't seen it since late ninties though, I need to fix that.

I remember seeing the trailer on tv for this, when I was a kid. Batman was my favourite movie at the time so I was happy to see Keaton. Never seen this movie though.

Yeah, and it was 4 who helped Doug realize what he needed to do to fix his marriage.

And in a pleasant turn of events, it's on right now! I missed the last first 15 minutes when it was on a few months ago, because of work... Now this time, I'll miss the last 15 minutes because of work. I say that evens out nicely.

EDIT:

"What do you do to relax?"
"Uh, I don't know. Play golf."
"That's a great game. How often do you get out?"
"Well, let's see... Never. Yeah, never. I'm going to have to cut back now, though. That's really going to hurt."

There should have been a tie-in sequel with the next Batman flick. Keaton becomes four Batmans; Batman Black, Batman Blue, Batman Yellow and Batman Pink.

I used to watch this movie all the time. So good. Michael Keaton truly is one of the greats. The guy can do anything.

Another underrated Michael Keaton gem is The Night Shift starring Keaton and Henry Winkler.
