Default Personal Philosophies

What are yours?

Y'know, just little bits of wisdom that you try to live by. Carpe Diem and **** like that.

"**** it"

It's not the sort of thing that anyone's gonna embroider on a cushion anytime soon but it does the trick.

No, I see the wisdom in that.

I've known a lot of people who've let doubt and bad things beyond their control cripple them emotionally and in actuality. By just realizing you don't have control over some things, and just saying **** it, you free yourself from the pointless burden and chains of negativity and pessimism.

It can also overcome fear, self-consciousness, and other such things that keep most people from every truly being theirselves and being comfortable in their own skin.

If you can't beat em join em

If you haven't got anything nice to say, don't say nothing at all

Always be yourself, unless you suck (well that's Whedon's really, but meh)

If you don't think you can do something, pretend you can, and then do it

Here's my couple;

"I pretended to be somebody I wanted to be, and, finally, I became that person. Or he became me." - Cary Grant

"In order to be successful, one must project an image ofmsuccess at all times." - American Beauty

Essentially, they both elude to the fact that perception is more important than reality, and by controlling perceptions and your own actions, you can influence reality and (to be a little spiritual) "fate" itself to further your own ends.

A few more...

1. Emotion is the root of all evil.

2. Happiness is a state of mind.

3. Predictable bad people are safer than unpredictable good people.

Never pass up the opportunity to make a moderate cash-only purchase from a man with no teeth.

Never take relationship advice from someone in the same "quadrant" as you. I.e., if you're a straight man, do not take relationship advice from other straight men, if you're a gay guy, don't take relationship advice from other gay guys, etc.

Try to have informed opinions.

It is better to keep quiet and let people thing you are stupid than open your mouth and prove it.

Knowledge is power.

When I'm dead nothing will matter anymore, but as I am alive it might.

Finding meaning and sense in life is just a way to avoid accepting there's none to it.

Don't regret the past, because it shaped who you are.

If there is one thing that genuinely merits being ashamed of, it is stupidity and ignorance.

Life is too short to go through it being ashamed of who you are because someone else thinks you should be. It's your life, not theirs, and they have no right to force you feel that way unless you give it to them.

People should be allowed to do whatever the **** they want, as long as they're not hurting anyone. Mind your own ******* business.

Your beliefs don't make you better than anyone, your behavior does.

You can choose your family. The people you happen to be biologically related to aren't your family, the people you feel the closest to are, whether or not those are one and the same.

If you can't be a good example, at least you can be a horrible warning. But if you can't be a horrible warning? Be comic relief.

Be the change you want to see in the world. (I think Ghandi said it?)

All of those are very good.

Some I've been living by for years myself.
