Unfortunately, it's not so simple. I made my suggestions based on certain physical cues and features that the characters had. For instance, the Vulture is lanky, creepy and has a somewhat avian profile (i.e. prominent, beak-shaped nose). Kraven, meanwhile is big, muscular, physically imposing and has somewhat 'primal' features (i.e. strong squared jaw, heavy brow, etc). On the other hand, masked villains like Shocker aren't quite as physically distinctive. Ditto for personalities, which are open for reinterpretation since for many, they aren't the first things that come to mind (i.e. the most important attributes) for many of them. For instance, Doc Connors in TASM was quite different personality-wise compared to the comics.

All of this makes it difficult to come up with an 'ideal' casting choice since there's nothing to aim for.

Back to my suggestion of Neil Patrick Harris:

The reason why I feel he'd make a good Carnage or Mysterio is because he has fantastic sense of comic timing (meaning, knowing the exact moment to utter the one-liner in a script), which is something both characters require. In addition, his history as a child actor who spent some time having difficulty finding success as an adult actor gives him lots to draw on for inspiration for Mysterio. Plus, he is hammy as hell and is quite an accomplished magician (he is the current President of the Academy for Magical Arts at Magic Castle, which is the magic club in Los Angeles), which I think would be a very useful skill to have for anyone playing Mysterio.

As for why I think he could play Carnage, it's because I get the feeling that he has the ability to come off as seriously creepy and unhinged if given a role that requires that.

Very true what you say here. Still, with someone like Shocker, one important aspect is the voice. Sure, you can't hear his voice in the comics but throughout the years in cartoons and games, his voice has become something of a trademark for him (except for the suit and weapons of course). Much like one would expect Venom's voice to be in a certain way (dark, menacing, double voices etc.).

So for someone like Shocker, while there isn't really as clear of a picture of how he should look like, as there is for Kraven, Vulture, Osborn, Doc Ock etc. there are still some stuff to look for. As I said, the voice is one factor, but I think many people view him as looking somewhat thug-ish, without looking too rugged. I've always thought that Jason Statham could make for a really cool Shocker if it wasn't for his inability to sound American (as far as I've heard). But yeah, as you said, it's no way near as definite as Kraven or Vulture.

But if we go with villains who have a more specific look, such as Norman Osborn, Doc Ock, Hammerhead, Sandman, Eddie Brock etc. it would be interesting to see who you'd pick because look-wise you absolutely nailed Vulture and Kraven

I'm sorry but I just can't see NPH as Mysterio because I don't want Mysterio to be hammy. I want Mysterio to be taken seriously, because he is one of the villains with the most potential to be an awesome movie villain.

Maybe he can play creepy as Kletus, but I think NPH just looks too goofy and funny.

I think the father from "That 70s Show" Kurtwood Smith would make a great Jameson. He has a powerful deep gravely voice, is the right age, just give him a flat top and a mustache.

Remember, Simmons was bald too:

and I found this too, and I think Christopher McDonald could work. He is good at playing Jameson type characters.

Christopher McDonald I could definitely see, but no to Kurtwood Smith. I like the guy a lot as an actor, but McDonald would have that right feel between Jameson's eccentricity, obstinance, and anger and absent-mindedness too. I think he'd fit quite well in Simmons' shoes.

I'm all for Harry, MJ, Liz Allen, and the Daily Bugle. Maybe a cameo by Michael Morbius, but otherwise... don't make it where Spidey is teaming up with other heroes (unless it's in a future "Avengers" movie).

As good as Simmons was, I dont think it will be impossible to recast him. I don't agree with those who suggest Simmons should reprise the role. Nor do i think it will happen.

My favorite suggestions are:
John C. Mcginley
John Slattery
Sam Elliott
Kurtwood Smith
Christopher Mcdonald

I think any one of these actors could play a Jameson that would have a great dynamic with Garfield's Peter Parker.

Toby Jones for Doc Ock. I think I'll genuinely be disappointed if anyone else is cast to play him if he appears in this series.

And this one is out of left field I know, but just an idea for Norman:
Mark Metcalf. Played The Master on BtVS.

I'd prefer Michael Massee to Metcalf.

In fact, I don't see a problem with Michael Massee to begin with.

So, I was watching "Revolution" today and it suddenly hit me... what about Jeff Fahey as J. Jonah Jameson?

Never heard of him. It's hard for me to wrap my head around another actor as J3 besides JKS but I guess if they had to (which they probably will unfortunately) he sounds as good as any

I know he is justin hammer for Marvel, but Sam Rockwell would be a great Cletus Kassidy, imo.

And Jason Isaacs is who I've wanted for Norman since the reboot was announced.

He was in "LOST", "Grindhouse: Planet Terror", "Lawnmower Man", "Silverado", and "Wyatt Earp." Mostly is a character actor.

The problem with Simmons is he'd have to tone it down performance wise to fit in with Webb's more realistic world. There's no point having him for that reason. I could tell Webb had no real interest when asked about his possible return.

I think Bryan Cranston fits the bill for the new JJJ.
