I doubt KOTH returns as Domination looks like it's exactly the same but with 3 rings at the same time. Shame as that's my main game type but I'll just move to Domination. Guardian was my most played game type on Gears 2 but on Gears 3 it didn't have enough players to justify a return. It's not the same game with open hard to defend maps and so many easy one shot kill weapons/unearned downs (boomshot, digger, sawed off, retro, 3 grenades). With so few modes at least getting games should be a lot easier.

Lol I was actually in the middle of writing it. Pretty tired though so I think I better sleep on it before I finish, lest I ramble. Don't worry, I'll try not to keep you all hanging :P

Do they explain why the weapons and equipment seem to be better in this game? How does that make sense if this takes place prior to all the other games.

I loved Horde back then. Played it nearly every day. But don't have time for 3-5 hours in one go now without a big break. If this 10 waves lasts about an hour and is super intense I think it'll be a better fit for where I am now, more like the ME3 multiplayer. I hope it's really difficult to beat all the waves on any difficulty above casual & almost impossible on Insane.

First of all, the equipment isn't really better, it's just different. It also looks older and more human, like the retro lancer did in Gears 3.
Also, even if it were more advanced, it would still make sense... It's not like there was any high level weapon development after E-Day. Makes sense that the COG would be more heavily fortified with more supplies at the beginning of the conflict. Edit: Here's my hands on preview with the Gears Judgement campaign http://wolvieboy.wordpress.com/2013/...aign-hands-on/

Great read as always Wolvie, love your writing style.
I'm looking forward to the smart spawn system. Will make the job of people writing guides a hell of a lot harder! And I'm glad this is going to look & feel more like the 1st Gears of War, one of my all time favourite games. Darker & more open areas than Gears 3. You say it looks great..how much of a difference from the last game? When I played Overrun about 6 months ago it looked a lot smoother & cleaner but not a huge visual upgrade although that could have been an old build. The stuff that was released 2 days or so ago looked great though.

I mean, it's not MILES above Gears 3, which already looked really good, but the design for the mission I was on definitely looked very polished. I mean, when buildings crumbled and sidewalks bulged as emergence holes threatened to burst out, it definitely looked great.
Not sure about the MP but the presentation of the campaign level seemed pretty good. The opening cutscene seemed to be much sharper visually too.

Yeah this is looks absolutely incredible, Baird was always my favorite character. I love how people like to deride the Gears franchise for not having a story or anything but I have found this series so far has delivered for me one of the best stories and the best characters of any this generation. I have this baby pre-ordered and I am ready. Thank God there I have Tomb Raider and Forza Horizon this week to tide me over.

I agree Jacobed. They were always strong, character driven games.

I read your preview and it seems you and The Sess have the same concerns about the story but I think once its all said and done the story for this one will be great, well thats what I'm hoping for.

This smells like a whorish attempt to try and squeeze more juice out of a what was supposed to be concluded franchise. There has been little marketing for this game.

Not at all. People Can Fly came into Epic and said hey we have a great idea for a game about Baird. They loved Baird and wanted to make a game about him. The other 3 main characters have all had at least part of the story in the other games about them. Baird never has and People Can Fly wanted to change that. Looks like so far they've done a phenomenal job at reworking the formula just enough to make it fresh but at the same time keeping it the same gameplay that we love.
