I doubt that seeing as how Sony was still releasing games on the PS2 this last year. Now maybe Microsoft...

I doubt there is any incentive Sony or Microsoft could provide that would make Ubisoft only release the game on next gen consoles against their will. They might do so of their own volition, however, if the next gen consoles are reasonably well established in the market by the time Watch_Dogs were to approach release.

You know, the more I watch and hear about Watch Dogs, and I think about how Ubisoft is behind it, I can't help but see how much it reminds me of the concepts of Splinter Cell and Assassin's Creed and I can't help but feel like this is the closest AC fans will get to having a modern day assassin game, seeing as how ACIII is still is a past time period.

But I think it all works out with how they've taken elements from those two franchises and combined them to make a completely different experience, which still looks to be great.

Watch Dogs – Creative Director Interview

special note of what he's saying on this one the profiler program the characters using. and the consequence's of your actions and the characters reaction to doing some thing like killing(not so much with the character here it's the same usual) if you watch it to the end. which was kinda the theme of E3 with tomb raider dishonored and "last of us" too.

There's really nothing to discuss since E3, the game's still in deep into development from showing any more footage than the one we've already seen.

Hopefully. I see this as this E3's Tomb Raider, where they showed an amazing demo, but then went silent for almost a whole year.

Or GTA V.

Only Rockstar could just show a trailer and not out any more details on a game for going on 9 months.

I can imagine that Ubisoft wants to release this in the current & next-gen consoles.

At E3 Yves seemed pretty hesitant about saying whether or not it would be on current gen consoles. That's since been confirmed, but it seems like perhaps that was very much up in the air at some point. I agree that I think it will be on both, but with the comments about them targeting high end PCs with this game and the previously mentioned hesitation about confirming it coming to current gen, it seems to me that current gen version might be an afterthought or a significant downgrade from the "real" version. It's too way too early to say something like that for sure, but I'm just throwing it out there.

I could see that happening, I don't think Ubisoft wants to release a new IP this late in the current cycle but I don't know how good new IPs does within the first year of the launch of the new consoles so I guess they'll make a port with the version they're targeting for the next-gen consoles while stripping it down for the current consoles.

Well, logic would dictate that focusing on the current generation, even after new consoles are out, would be the smart thing to do because they know how to squeeze the most juice out of the old hardware and because the install base would be larger by several orders of magnitude. However, it's always been Ubisoft's strategy to embrace new hardware since there's significantly less competition and people will be much more likely to play their games and become invested in their IP.

Odd to say, if devkits really are floating around the big third party names. You'd think Ubisoft would be one of the first to know.

VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:

Remember Watch Dogs, Ubisoft's surprise E3 2012 reveal that popped up at the tail end of the publisher's annual press conference? The game officially disappeared to the backburner after the summer showcase to give Ubi breathing space to pimp fall 2012 releases like Assassin's Creed 3 and the upcoming Far Cry 3, but now it's back with a new dev diary (via All Games Beta). Or recruitment ad. Depends on who's watching, I suppose. In any event, Watch Dogs looks as nifty as it ever did. The two-minute video is light on gameplay, and the footage that's there is all clipped from the E3 presentation. It's the first look that we've gotten at the upcoming game since June though, so you might want to give it a peek.

Guillemot: Watch Dogs dialed in for 2013

18

Watch Dogs, the futuristic, sci-fi bloodbath from Ubisoft, is scheduled to drop in 2013, CEO Yves Guillemot said during a financial call today.

"Watch Dogs will be coming next year," Guillemot said, in reference to the AAA titles Ubisoft has scheduled for 2013.

Watch Dogs is a third-person, open-world action shooter that appears to take cues from Blade Runner, Grand Theft Auto and Daft Punk. Ubisoft hopes to get it on PS3 and Xbox 360 "for sure," though Wii U is still an option. Meanwhile, the PC version it showed off at E3 was certainly noteworthy.

It's amazing how this game is hardly noticed, even less than Capcom's "Remember Me"
I hope it allows climbing on walls Assassin's Creed style

I love that it's an open world game. I can't wait. Next year will be a great year for open world games with this and GTA 5.

So wait, it says they hope to get it on PS3 and 360 "for sure", so does that mean it's not there yet and that a PC version might be released first? I thought it was confirmed for PS3 at least.
