Default Are you a completionist?

There was a time when I would buy every movie in a franchise simply to satisfy the completionist within. These days I'm much more selective.

I bought (at the time) all the Pirates movies. The format was still young and I was starving for excellent transfers. Today I wouldn't touch 2-3.

I waited out for the individual Alien releases and am still waiting for Jurassic Park but I did bite on the X-Men and Matrix sets in the past.

I've felt compelled to do that every so often. I just can't bring myself to own a film that I really don't like though . Unless it's packaged in a collection and doesn't effect the cost.

I used to be when I was younger back in the VHS/DVD days but over time I've become a bit of a film snob. I won't buy the Jurassic Park trilogy no matter how much I want the original because I think the sequels are ****.

I've actually been purging my movie collection over the past few months getting rid of blind buys that seemed interesting but were **** and getting rid of movies that I liked as a child but haven't aged well. I kind of take pride in my movie collection.

No, I don't have any attachment to franchise completion. When I buy a movie, it's because I (a) like it and want to watch it again or (b) haven't seen it and want to. I don't rewatch the same movies very often, so sometimes I'll even pass on ones I really like because I don't think I'll watch them again any time soon.

Unfortunately, I tend to complete a franchise. And later I'm annoyed about myself. I still don't know why I bought Oceans 12. It stand originally sealed in the shelf since five years. Stupid.

I used to be when I was a kid. I had like four different versions of Batman, Star Wars, etc. for no reason whatsoever.

Now, I really don't care. Money means more to me now than having a complete collection, so now I just try to buy as few movies as possible.

I'm a completionist in the sense that I'm obsessed with digging up the movies and properties that set the breeding ground for other properties. For example: no It! The Terror From Beyond Space and Planet of the Vampires, no Alien. No The Bat, no The Man Who Laughs, no The Shadow, no Batman. No Flash Gordon, no Star Wars. No Blue Cheer, no Black Sabbath, hell, no Stravinsky, no heavy metal. No Holst, no John Williams.

I do not own a lot of blu rays simply because I had such a huge DVD collection I didn't want to start getting blu rays all of a sudden for films I had already owned. Well, that and we didn't actually have a blu ray player at my house that wasn't the Playstation until early last year. Now I've been looking at all these box sets and collection blu rays and my mouth is starting to drool a bit, I'm gonna start collectiong blu ray sets for movies with the complete films on them soon like Alien, Superman, Batman...as well as extended ultimate cuts for films like Watchmen.

I think it's my OCD nature coming out but I really like the idea of getting a bunch of these movies on blu ray soon.

I personally am a completionist. But when it comes to non-physical media i'm not too bothered, I prefer to see my films/comics/cd's on a shelf than on file on my computer.

Yes, admittedly, I've fallen into the clutches of this syndrome. My wife and I each have franchises we're into, so our dvd collection is huge. Kind of running out of space to store it all, so we've sold some of our dvds to stores that deal in used merchandise.

I am a severe completionist. I'm as much a film collector as I am a film lover. If I was any sort of wealthy I would have wall to wall movies in one of my rooms. I own all the X-Films, even though at least two of them are ****. I own all the Punisher films, I own all the Ghost Rider films. I even own the Mummy 3 though I've never watched it because it's so bad. I had to complete the trilogy.

I got a Kindle for Christmas and kind of hate myself for not having real, hard copies of the books I get now, but I do love not having to worry about space. However, with movies, I don't want just a digital copy EVER. I want the dvd or blu ray. Also, I still don't redeem my digital comics codes because I love having actual comics too much and don't care as much about digital copies at this point.

I despise digital copies. I like having the physical product in my hands. I also don't watch movies on portable devices, because IMO that's not how movies are meant to be seen.

I watch movies on my computer sometimes, but not often, and I used to be really reluctant to do that. I'm with you, most movies just aren't meant to be seen that way, and for a lot of them it feels to me like a disservice to them. My go-to line on the matter is a sarcastic, "Yeah, I really want to watch Lawrence of Arabia on an iPhone." And I also very much prefer the physicality and tangibility of holding a DVD or Blu-ray in my hands. So yeah, I'm dreading that day when it's all digital.

I think it may be that i'm showing my age, but I love when you go to a shop and come back with your haul of dvds etc, that is actually a physical thing, that comes with the artwork, like when your on the bus/train ride home or whatever you have a quick look at what you've bought. Streaming/Downloading sitting there on your computer reading a synopsis just doesn't have the same experience to me, it's kinda hollow. Like I say though I imagine that is just basically my age and this simply isn't my time anymore so I have to adjust to the future way in which we receive our media!

I feel the same way about basically all of my media. CD's, DVD's, Blu-Ray's. I like having that physical product in my hand that I can then enjoy on my big TV.

just hook your computer to your tv. once i did that i never looked back. before then i wouldn't watch stuff on my computer, now the big screen can surf the web in luxury. and if you want artwork, just look it up as well no glare at all. and best of all no clutter anymore.

That can never compare to being able to look at shelf after shelf of films you've bought. You can go to your library, physically hold the film you want to watch in your hand, and know it's yours forever. I'm old fashioned like that. I prefer being able to have a physical product. I have hooked my PC to my TV many times, and it can never compare.

are you trying to impress someone with your cluttered shelves? or you just like a constant reminder of how much you spent on movies? whatever that's your thing i guess. for me i don't need the mess on my shelves anymore.

hooking it to the pc is way better for me. i don't have to watch an old vhs i got i can watch a new clearer digital version. and i don't have to worry about my vcr eating my tape when i rewind it. or worry about a dvd i lent someone that came back scratched and will skip.

saying it is yours forever that doesn't make sense. you can also purchase the movie as a digital download to keep forever so it will always be yours as well.
why do you need to hold the film disc? you watch them, touching the disc is pointless.
