The obvious problem with a director's cut: the great balance between all the characters will be thrown out of whack and it'll become Cap and friends.
Still, I'm with you. Totally down with this. |

I think it was originally intended to be the Cap and Tony show.

I'd definitely go see it. If they do, it might just have a shot at the US Domestic crown but WW definitely not. It's probably just a rumour though.

I just don't see the point since the movie runs so well in its theatrical version. I bet certain scenes would just seem like rehashing of stuff done/said already or may just change the narrative so its focus is off.

No interest in a directors cut. Very interested in extra footage/scenes for the blu ray or maybe if ta is re released, they could show a few of the unused scenes during/after the credits. That would be fun.
The cut cap scene might actually work as a prologue or title sequence in cap 2. Maybe. I doubt whedon is interested in recutting the movie, for good reason. Last edited by Joeyjojo72; 06-12-2012 at 02:38 PM. |

Obviously I haven't seen it, but I wonder if the Cap/Peggy deleted scene might work as a final scene in the first Cap movie.

It's a gamble. It might have repeatitive stuff or it might have great scenes that didn't make it because of time or pace. But the movie convinced me that 6 superheroes at the same time could be an interesting idea so I'd watch what Whedon had originally in mind.

A three-hour cut of The Avengers? I would watch the hell out of that. Hopefully this is more than just a crackpot rumor and Disney will make it happen later this summer.

This is such a pathetic move on Disney/Marvel's part if true. Like really?
One, it's an obvious ploy just to turn more bucks. Two, it's a reaction to the TDKR in an attempt to steal some of its box office thunder and it's an idiotic one as most GA will choose a movie THEY HAVENT seen over a film they already have, and is now being re-released just to turn more money. Also, keep in mind, that this re-release will not have IMAX showings as IMAX is contracted to TDKR through October. Just dumb on so many levels.

I'm pretty skeptical for a number of reasons, but I do hope this happens. Disney/Marvel is clearly going after the domestic record only, they have no shot of catching Titanic for worldwide gross. What does hurt their thunder is A) TDKR, and B) the home video being released less than 60 days after.
I for one will go see the extended cut in the theaters even having preordered the Blu Ray and expecting it by end of September. |

I can't imagine what though could take place in the story that would warrant it to be 3 hours long for the entire cut; I mean, I know that a lot of Steve's part was cut out from the beginning in regards to the whole "man out of time" part, along with Bruce's talk with the security guard, and the stuff mentioned in the deleted scenes, but I can't imagine them being put into the film making it into 3 hours long.

Whether this is true or not, I think it goes without question that the Marvel and Disney execs are definitely brainstorming on ways to capitalize off of this movie's humongous success. So something like this could very well be possible EVENTHOUGH Joss himself said he is not interested in a "director's cut".

He even said that the cut that we saw in theaters IS his "director's cut", anything else that the studio dishes out would just be an extended cut...

First off, it's just a rumor at this stage unless you have definite information to the contrary. Second, it's not pathetic at all. There are over thirty minutes of material that would have been in the film if not for time and pacing considerations. Reintegrating that footage as the director originally intended is something that has been done many times before. (Blade Runner is the example that springs most readily to mind.) There are many fans who would happily see the film again in order to experience that Third, re-releasing a film to increase its box office take has been done before. WB did it with TDK in 2009, hoping to reach the $1 billion mark. The Phantom Menace and Titanic were re-released just this year, with the flimsy excuse of 3D conversions. In fact, countless films have returned to theaters over the decades, and it's always about making more money. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that since making money is the ultimate goal of any studio film. Fourth, we've seen that IMAX contracts aren't so ironclad as they seem. The contracts in place for Dark Shadows were bent (if not broken) when theater operators decided that they wanted the money they could make from The Avengers instead. While I have no idea whether or not the same thing will happen with TDKR, later in its run, it is clear that the possibility of TA getting some of those screens does exist. And even if the IMAX screens aren't available, 3D screens are a different matter. It's just a rumor and may not be correct, but if Disney did re-release The Avengers it would hardly be a "dumb" move. It could actually be rather brilliant. From a fan's perspective, the more money the movie makes, the better, because it gives Disney more confidence in the entire franchise (if such is needed). It will also be intriguing to see how the additional footage changes the film artistically.

Well, I don't think this is really the director's cut since Joss has said the theatrical cut IS his definitive cut, and this one will likely have more pacing issues and other problems supporting the reasons the footage was cut in the first place, but...I would still watch the hell outta this because for me, more footage = YAY.

I thought most of the footage was about Steve Rogers and that they might be saving some of that material for his sequel.
