So I finally saw The Artist and...Jesus, 2011 was an awful year for movies.

I almost would've rather they given the Best Picture Oscar posthumously to The Fighter or The Social Network rather than reward any of the subpar offerings of 2011 with an award.

I really dug the Artist and nah, 2011 as a whole I think had some of the best films in years (well at least 2010).

What's wrong with The Artist? Does everything need CGI and loud noises to keep your attention?

I really dug that film.

Fair enough. I'll give it an appropriate "grade" as soon as I can watch it. I was going to purchase it on a whim, but will just rent it now.

Writer director Shane Black has been supposedly working on a script that he wants to direct.

If they ever made another, I'd definitely be interested in it.

It's one of those movies that doesn't look like my type of movie, but peeks my interests. I'm not a silent movie person. Still, I hope to rent it eventually to give it a go.

It's one of those rare great films that is actually genuine on the subject matter and isn't being condescending to the viewers.

I was sorta interested in seeing The Artist, but I could never bring myself to actually sitting down and watching it.

So, I'm pondering whether or not to buying a Nintendo Wii. It's adequately priced & has some good titles I'm wanting to try. Opinions?

It's probably worth buying. It's certainly a good movie. Just not deserving of Best Picture.

Um, no. I've made like 58683748 posts in the movies board about how much I appreciate subtle and minute aspects of film over the obvious and loud.

The Artist was good. But it didn't do anything new. It didn't challenge any perceived notions or even tell a story that we haven't seen before.

Honestly, during the dream scene in the movie, where everyone/thing could be heard but him, I kinda got my hopes up that the movie would explore a more psychedelic and expressionistic commentary on the switch to Talkies - creating an audiatory contrast between the two methods and highlighting the pluses and minuses of both - but then he woke up from the dream, and it continued along its rather standard narative path.
