OK...I think I found some funky with the story here using the name of the songs. If the songs are in the order of the movie (which they sure seem to be...)

How come "Playing Basketball" is waaaay before "The Spider Room"?? Peter doesn't get bit until "The Spider Room"...so how come he has his powers before that?

Hm...

I have to say, I was definitely caught off guard by the initial samples, simply because they didn't seem to fit the tone and feel that the early trailers were going for. Moreover, I had always thought that the piece playing on the official site was an indicator of what we were in for, and that it didn't really gel with how the samples that came out. Having said all that...

...I really enjoyed the OST. I was a bit surprised too, because I just wasn't feeling it with the samples and the police chase clip, but I've definitely warmed up to it. It has a fresh flair, and a very heroic semblance in the traditional sense. The actiony bits are evocative of Horner's work on "Avatar," some of the quieter bits recall "A Beautiful Mind" (there's a small riff in "The Ganali Device" that's IDENTICAL to a bit in "Alicia Discovers Nash's Dark World"), and yet, the score manages to stand on its own and develop a unique identity that I can't wait to see paired with Spidey.

While I'm certain that some people will be mixed on the inclusion of the choral and chanting bits (very Avatar-esque), I quite enjoyed them. Again, they add to the unique flavor, and Horner really does make great use of his vocalists, perfectly integrating them into the orchestral work. In particular, the chanting is especially effective in "Ben's Death," as are the choral moments in "Saving New York." Very powerful stuff.

All in all, I'm quite impressed, and pleased to be able to say that, given my first impression. I've always been looking forward to this film, and have enjoyed everything they've displayed, but I felt my first twinge of disappointment (or perhaps perplexed uncertainty, rather) when the score samples came out, but I'm happy to find that that's been rectified. The score is great, the variety themes are great (I tend to prefer the softer stuff, a la "I Can’t See You Anymore"), and I can't wait to see them synch up with the visuals.

I KNEW I couldn't have been the only one. I've listened to the "A Beautiful Mind" OST enough to recognize that sorta stuff.

The Elfman score is fantastic and there are some memorable moments in there that are unforgettable...but there's no central theme.

Horner has brought a central theme and I'm literally humming it in my mind as I type this ****.

Yep. The track in question ("Alicia Discovers Nash's Dark World") is my favorite from Horner's work on "A Beautiful Mind." When that riff hit, my brain was already anticipating the bit that follows in the "A Beautiful Mind" piece, so it was almost disorientating for it to end up flowing differently.

At 1:41 on Hunting for information, there's a quote of elfman's spidey theme.

Really? To me, it sounds like the beginning to Elfman's Batman theme.

It's definitely the Spidey theme. Or, at least the (B) spidey theme.

Really? It doesn't sound anything like the opening to Elfman's Batman theme to you...? Really? I mean, maybe it sounds like his Spidey theme but I'd have to hear it again.

AH! Yes, I noticed that too. It is quite obviously Elfman's Spider-Man theme.

Yeah, definitely. It's the theme associated with Uncle Ben. For instance, it plays in the cemetery before the final swing in SM1.

No, that's not the theme. Sounds like it at first, but it's not it.

I'm in love with the softer, quieter songs from the OST. And the action themes are growing on me in a hurry. I'll be the first to admit that the theme during the Cop Chase scene struck me as out of place, but after hearing it a few times I'm growing to like it quite a bit.

The more I hear the theme, the better it sounds, so I have a feeling that i will love the music when I listen to it in theaters

I think that to truly get in to the soundtrack you have to be watching the movie so get in to the spirit of the tone
