I can wait for 5+ years for the next FF film. I'd rather Marvel own the rights. 2015 ain't that far.

2015 it is, but Marvel Studios won't be making it.

I'm pretty sure Fox will be making the next movie.

Is this reboot going to be another origin story or will they do what TIH did? I feel like even though the first FF film was very cheesy, it told the origin well enough. They go into space, get exposed to a storm, and get powers. Now they can just make a movie with the FF already formed as a team, and Dr. Doom is the main villain from the start.

I am becoming more and more skeptical that Fox has any intention of making the film.

Over the past few years, we've seen a pattern:

1. People start to question if they're ever going to make it.
2. Someone at Fox mentions that person X is involved.
3. Nothing happens.
4. Goto 1.

Back when I was programming in Basic on a Radio Shack TRS-80, that was what we called an infinite loop.

It never goes anywhere.

Since THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN opens next week, and I am sure it will do very well, I suppose we can expect to hear yet more empty promises from Fox with regards to their "next" FF movie...

Id assume this as well... And I really wouldn't be shocked if we heard no word from fox about it at comic con

I don't see the point of Fox holding onto the film rights if they aren't going to make a movie. Just give them back to Marvel already!

I LOVE the Fantastic 4 in the comic books, and I think its a shame that so many people in the GA think the FF are a joke because of the movies. I want a serious FF movie!

Because fox (like most studios) collect properties, and typically do not like giving away properties. studios typically hate seeing a film they lost be successful at another studio. Most have the mantra "if it can be done well at one studio, there's no reason it couldn't of been done well at ours" fox is just trying to keep the rights so another studio can't have them. It's not a film priority for them at the moment.

Yes. Of course until time has passed and they most definitely won't play with it (yet still won't sell it) until someone makes them a delicious offer on the toy they weren't playing with anyway.

That really annoys me. At least Spider-Man did not end up with Fox.

Even though they have DD and FF, they seem to only care about X-Men. Instead of making more Wolverine spin-offs, why not just take the time to make movies for other characters and expand their franchises? I am still waiting for those Silver Surfer and Deadpool movies.

So basically right now fox is doing 2 things... Trying to create hype to see if pursuing this film is worth it to them (or not) as well as keeping Disney off their scent (while baiting them at the same time) to see if Disney will make an offer

They should have attempted a silver surfer film.... But after 2 bombs they figured a spinoff or sequel to the F4 was not currently profitable.

I think "Dog in the manger" is the more literary and common term.

Would you really consider the first FF a bomb though? I know that Rise of the Silver Surfer made a lot less money overall.

And what about that Deadpool movie?

This is what I think may be happening. Since neither DD/Elektra and the two FF movies did well enough for Fox to consider making sequels off them, their recent "movement" on the reboots may just be smokescreen to prompt Disney (with their very deep pockets) to pony up money to get the rights back. I think although Fox hates to give up those rights, they knew that it still takes at least 100-150 million to make an "affordable" reboot movie for each franchise, and I think it is a risk that they probably privately worry about. And judging from this summer, it is clear that audience doesn't like to pay for mediocre movies and Fox may be stuck with two of them.

I think if they can make Disney to pay them like they did for Paramount, they'll give back those movie rights and focus their resources on X-Men and their spinoffs.

Movies really don't take that long to go into production.

That legal ruling stating that WB had to have a Superman movie in production by 2011 happened in August of 2009.

By October of 2010, WB had already greenlighted the Nolan/Goyer pitch, and had hired Zach Synder to direct.
