I finally got caught up with my Spider-Man reading. Read # 681 to 691 over the weekend. Ends of the Earth wasn't that great. Slott's dialogue was really extra cheesy and it had a Marvel Adventures feel to it. Caselli and Ramos seemed to be on one minute and then the next page would be sloppy and not their usually output. I don't know if they were rushed or what but overall Ends of the Earth left me disappointed.

The Lizard arc was a much better step in the right direction. Camuncoli was on freakin fire on that arc. Wasn't ground breaking stuff but I did like what they did with The Lizard and leaves things open for the future. Also...the reveal at the end of # 691 was awesome. I think most fans of the book had an idea that this reveal was the case but it was good to finally see it. The fallout from that is going to be great to watch.

I'm hoping that Ends of the Earth was kind of just a brief slump and that the issues leading up to # 700 are just as solid if not better.

so.. not to start a flame war. but i do have a genuine curiosity. How's spidey's sales doing?

i've notice this thread seems dead most of the time... compared to it's past. so wondered if that meant the sales are down too..

In 2012, ASM sales have averaged 57 012 copies sold per issue...

The highest issue was ASM #687 (62 680 copies) in June..
And the lowest issue was ASM #679.1 (50 624 copies) back in February...

The last 9 issues (since ASM #682 - late March) have averaged 59 024 copies sold per issue...

Of the recorded sales numbers since Dan Slott took over the book with Big Time (ASM #648), there have been 45 issues (including two 0.1 issues) with an average of 59 450 issues sold per book... or 2 675 255 books in total...

ASM has been a consistant Top 20 book since BND began... so the "deadness" of this thread and sales are not related...

Darn. Well Im patient. If things never change back then so be it. I always will have back issues. The whole recent de-aging of the MU and "Marvel Now" has turned me off to the comics completely unfortunately. everything feels like 1999 and Marvel "reborn" all over again

I don't know why this thread is always so quiet. It got to the point where I've been going over to the Spidey forums because I wanted to talk Spidey. I guess that its a combination of A) people being quietly content with how things are B) a lot of folks around here gave up on Spider-Man a long time ago.

I'll say this about ASM right now - I think this has been the best run for a very....very long time now. This run Dan Slott kicked off with Big Time has been on par to the Roger Stern/Tom DeFalco runs that were my earliest full time exposure to Spider-Man and are both near and dear to my heart.

TMoB and I were discussing Marv Wolfman's run the other day on the Spidey forums and I would put this current run right up there close to that one. I had to read that is back issues because I wasn't a full time reader when it first came out.

I loved David Michelinies run with McFarlane, Larsen and Bagley and I think Slott's run has been better than those. The same with JMS' run, better than that too.

It's definitely one of the tops in ASM's history. The build to 700 has been terrific and building a ton of steam. The previews and interviews about future issues have me excited.

Totally agree. Slott's been doing a fantastic job, and I'm enjoying ASM more now than I have in a long time.

I hope Alpha comes and goes fairly quickly.. or at least scale down the powers drastically.. taking out a mole man's behemoth with one punch gets boring very quickly..

I don't want a powerdown,.. I want him to get a clue.

On Topic:
Mr. Fantastic was more of a dick in this issue than I'm used to.

The arrogance and hypocracy of REED RICHARDS saying he knows better than to develop certain items - I'm surprised he kept a straight face,...

That, not putting him with FF and calling the Alpha Origin a "fluke" has me hoping Sue slaps him around soon.

Ya just cause x amount of folks who go to this section not posting doesn't mean sales are up/down at all. Just more likely folks who come to the page just been busy with other things and not post about the book.

As for the current arcs I enjoyed spider island and it outcome. Didn't think it was a bad story at all. And have enjoyed slott run so far on spidey.

Really liked the lizard/morbius storyline. Fun little story. And some nice stuff happening with horizon and connors/lizard development. Can't wait to see what happens with lizard in time now. Some goes with jackal who been in the shadows watching since spider island. And its still interesting since the bnd stuff he is only villain that still knows pete/spiderman are one.

Now for alpha story. First issue was a solid story. And man what a total jackass alpha is. Going to be curious to see if he grows in time. Or stays the jerk he is. Curious to see how this ties to jackal and ock stories and the upcoming 700th issue.

I"ve been digging ALL the Spider-books... with the soleexception being AvSM, which has really slowed down since the initial Hulk team-up... but between ASM, Venom & Scarlet Spider, the Spider-Man franchise has never been in such solid hands... in MY opinion.

I like Avenging Spider-Man. It's essentially the new MTU book. I'd rather see more one and done stories in it than the multi part arcs.

I never thought his stories were all that great to begin with. Honestly, it doesn't matter who writes Avenging Spider-Man. Like I said before, it's the MTU for this generation and back in it's day MTU had a very simple formula:

Take Spider-Man + random hero for the team up + random (or new) villain = story.

All you needed was a simple plot and work within the limits of the characters current status quo. There's no need to accomplish anything earth shattering. Any writer can do a simple story. Use the book as both a means for talent evaluation and the easy sales.

Ironically, all I'm reading in the Spidey franchise, or plan on reading, is every book that Peter Parker is not in, including Morbius, Venom, & Scarlet Spider. Spider-Men is the sole exception, and it will end soon.

How is the scarlet book been thinking of getting it and since I probably will not read f4 in marvel now I might have more cash to spend. More so once we get all details for avengers team books and if I keep new avengers.

I was thinking about dropping it but had a change of heart because of all the upcoming cancellations leading into NOW it won't hurt my wallet by sticking with it.

It's decent enough. I like the character enough and the concept, I just don't care much for the writer.

I've always liked Kaine and I've always like Spidey 2099. He acts much like Spidey 2099. So he's a winner in my book. Plus no one in his book annoys me.

A lot of the lesser known ones. He went up against the Assassin's Guild (from Gambit's backstory), Kraven's daughter and most recently Roxxon Corp and the Texas Initiative team - The Rangers.

I love seeing these underused characters being used in Venom & Scarlet Spider. And seriously used at that.

I'm loving the positive and diverse portrayal of Houston, also Aracely is quite entertaining. I love when Kaine inadvertently kept bothering her with his thoughts till she called him out on it.
