This is an interesting thread, ummm...
Ridley Scott's Alien is perfect. The direction itself is flawless, but it's everything: the naturalistic acting and line delivery, pacing, set design, Goldsmith's music, just everything is firing on all cylinders... 34 years later it still looks shockingly contemporary too. That's indicative of how influential it is, I think. |

Terminator 2, Alien, Aliens, and The Lord of the Rings are pretty damn nearly perfect.
Jaws, Schindler's List, and The Silence of the Lambs are very well-constructed as well. Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark and the original Die Hard are almost perfect for their genres.

Almost Famous, Fight Club, 28 Days Later?
At least, that's as close as they get.

Jaws. The birds. Back to the future. Up. The iron giant. Little shop of horrors (the 80s one) & die hard with a vengence.

Raiders of the Lost Ark is not a perfect film in the technical sense but it it perfect entertainment.

The Green Mile and The Shawshank Redemption are pretty damn solid films. I can't really come up with any flaw about them.

I don't consider anything to be perfect, but some come pretty damn close.
Alien Aliens Batman Begins The Dark Knight The Dark Knight Rises The Godfather The Godfather: Part Two Grave of the Fireflies Kick-Ass Leon: The Professional The Lord of thr Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King Inception Inglorious Basterds Princess Mononoke Pulp Fiction Saving Private Ryan Spirited Away Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back Toy Story 3 Whisper of the Heart Last edited by Thoix; 08-20-2013 at 09:58 AM. |

I also don't consider any movie "perfect", because that's very subjective. But these movies I can't imagine being better than they already are:
A Clockwork Orange Shawshank Redemption Fargo No Country for Old Men Dr Strangelove Pulp Fiction LA Confidential Oldboy (Korean version) There will be Blood Godfather Part I and II Good Fellas Lost in Translation Rashomon (Japanese) Seven Samurai (Japanese) Psycho (original of course) Casablanca Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid The Deer Hunter Apocalypse Now There's other films I really love. But I can still see flaws in them. Not in these. |

Well yes, technically no film on an objective level is perfect, I think people that deny themselves a film/films that they personally consider perfect need to lighten up and let themselves have the satisfaction. Give a damn 10/10 once in a while. Nobody will scoff at you!
Some of these aren't technically my all time favorites, but many are. Others are just damn well made. Jaws Gremlins Pulp Fiction Alien Aliens Apocalypse Now (theatrical) Goodfellas Psycho The Godfather 1 & 2 American Psycho Raiders of the Lost Ark Schindler's List Jurassic Park ET The Thing (Carpenter) Terminator 2 Die Hard Bride of Frankenstein The Exorcist A Clockwork Orange The Good, The Bad and the Ugly Once Upon A Time In the West Blade Runner Directors Cut Se7en Fight Club Zodiac The Lion King Spirited Away Toy Story The Incredibles Ratatouille One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest Rear Window Requiem For A Dream Oldboy Stalker Raging Bull Night of the Living Dead Titanic (yes. I said it) Lawrence of Arabia Seven Samurai Ghostbusters Star Wars trilogy (yes even Jedi) The Big Lebowski Fargo Shaun of the Dead Back to the Future There are more, but those are the ones that popped into my head right away. Agreed. A hilarious, well constructed satire that says more today than it did when it was made. For what it is-perfect.

There is no perfect film. You have you Django Unchaineds & your Dark Knights, and then you have your Plan 9 from Outer Spaces, and your Adam Sandler's Jack & Jills, and then everything else inbetween.

Perhaps that's why the thread is called "What movies do you consider perfect?".

There is no perfect film in the technical and objective sense, that is true. But there is perfect entertainment which steeps more in subjectivity.
