Agreed.Look at X2.Singer took core elements from X-Men god Loves Man Kills(His favorate
X-Men story by the way) and adopted them to work as sequel to X-men. |

I really wouldn't mind not seeing Magneto in another film after DoFP. I would like to see more about X-Men's dynamics as a team and maybe another nemesis.

Yeah, as much as they have nailed down the character we have yet to see a movie were he isnt a majority of the focus. Be nice to see them give some other characters that development time.

If they do another prequel set in the late 60's or early 70's, I need more screentime for all the x-members. The x-men deserve more development than what we've gotten to date.

The end of Origins, where Xavier rescues Scott, takes place March 28, 1979. Gavin Hood based it on the actual Three Mile Island accident alluding to said historical account being a cover-up for what really happened. That places Wolverine's departure from Team X & encounter with baby Storm's village in 1973. If Cyclops is in high school in 1979, age 14 - 18, he's anywhere from 40 to 45-years-old in the trilogy. Baby Storm looked between ages 2 - 3 in 1973, putting her in her 30s during the trilogy. |

Ideally, I would love this film to borrow a lot from the brilliant first (and only) season of Wolverine and the X-Men. The entire season was an adaptation of DoFP, and it worked beautifully.

With age of characters no matter the actual ages of actors we can assume Cyclops,Jean, and Storm were all In their 30's In original trilogy.or sake of arguement let's say Bryan Singer wanted the past of film to take place In 1980 then you could fit Cyclops,Jean, and storm as teenagers.
As for borrowing from Wolverine and The X-men you could do that.Have Xavier changes mind with younger self and replace newer characters from show with actors from OT.To make that work you would have to cut back and forth between past and future. |

It now looks more logical for the original trilogy to have been set in the 1990s. Singer said Xavier and Magneto were aged in their 60s in the original trilogy and he chose the 1960s setting of First Class so they could be in their 30s. Young Xavier is credited as aged 12 in 1944 (when he met Raven, who is stated as being aged 10). Thus, Xavier was 30 in 1962. So when he was in his 60s, it was in the 1990s. The actor (Brett Morris) who played young Magneto in X1 was 12 (born July 1987) at the time of filming (September 1999 to March 2000), so the character could be suggested to be a similar age (the same age as Xavier in fact). The actor (Bill Milner) who played young Magneto in X-Men: First Class was 15-16 (born March 1995) at the time of filming (September 2010 to March 2011), suggesting an alternative age of young Magneto being 3 or 4 years older than Xavier. For both of them to be in their 60s in the original trilogy, it would have to be in the 1990s. And we know there was 15 years between Wolverine losing his memory and joining the X-Men in X1 (Xavier states the 15 years). If that was supposed to be the Three Mile Island incident in XMO: Wolverine, that's 1979. Add 15 years to that and that makes 1994 for the first film, then 1995 for X2 and 1996/1997 for The Last Stand.

Bryan Singer always wanted to keep It vague when X-Men films were In fact taking place.
The commantary on Last Stand states the jean being visited by Xavier and Magneto was suspose to be lat 1970's or early 1980's.Of course when they did first Class they were now starting to lockdown when the films take place. My theor was In 1944 Magneto was 12 and Xavier 10 thus In 1962 Xavier 28 and Magneto 30.Thur In trilogy they are In their early 60's.maybe Xavier at 60 In X1 and Magneto 62 In X1.Also dialogue between Cyclops and Jean hint at X2 maybe a month later even though Singer said on commantary It was suspose to be a year later. |

No one can say the original trilogy isn't from the late 1990s and ends at some point in the 00s. I'm not sure how Scott's car can play freaking N'Sync's "Bye, Bye,Bye" without it. No one's using landline phones and huge fatback tvs.

On that basis he was 12 in 1944 and 30 in 1962. He was obviously a child prodigy, hence getting his professorship quite early. It's possible to be a professor before the age of 30, though pretty exceptional. Morgan Lily is described as 'Young Raven (10yrs)' so she was 10 in 1944 and 28 in 1962.

I know what credits say but remember the credits for First Class had james Mcaoy as Xavier at age 24.So we can't totally relay on that.Xavier In comics graduated Collage In
his teens so I expect film version has him as Child prodigy. The X-Men trilogy could happen anytime In 1990's alternate from actual 1990's.Also Singer himself said On first Class features set First Class In 1992 so Xavier and Magneto are In mid to late twenties. |

Such a shame they didn't map out the franchise from the beginning. Creating character maps and timelines is something you do when writing a novel - or something any decent novelist does anyway - so you don't trip over the details. Seems like it's a bit late for that now! I wonder what they have in mind for the next film after DoFP.

I still think the 90s angle can work. I remember getting my first cell phone, a tiny Ericsson in 1994. Flat panel TVs took off in 2002 but Xavier's wealth & technology may have accelerated that process a decade. The 'N Sync song was released in January 2000 so perhaps that was a clue by Singer that X2 takes place in 2000. |

I like that idea. That would make the age issue seem a bit less unrealistic

I know this has been brought up on here before, but what does everyone think about the idea of Nimrod traveling to the past to combat the efforts of the time traveler a la Terminator? The FC characters have to have something to fight too, don't they? Or do we think it should be another X-Men vs Magneto/brotherhood?

If Wolverine is the traveler, it allows for a great opportunity to show Fassbender ripping out his adamantium during the battle. We can also get the psychic battle between Xavier & Frost we never got in FC. |
