I never really put much thought into it but Angamb bringing up "strong presence of the X-men team" brings up Mystique and puts into question her role in FC. I think the reason I was never sold on Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique is the fact that they tried to shoe-horn her into having a larger role in the Xavier-Magneto dynamic, when the previous films never hinted at it, especially the supposed kinship between X and her. Also for an Oscar-nominated actress she had some surprisingly badly-acted scenes (Codenames scene and subsequent CIA Attack scene) and awkwardly-delivered lines ("Mutant and proud."). I've only seen her in The Hunger Games, but her acting there is fine. And of course there's the awards buzz surrounding her Silver Linings role, so somehow I can't fault her for the mishandling (IMO) of Mystique.

People don't like me for saying It but I think we are looking at him using first Class character+returning actors from X-Men and X2(with possibilty of Kitty If they can get Ellen Page back) and target of assassination. The brotherhood plotting an assassination Is just the kind of personal plot up Singer's ally.

So I expect the same this time. I think he will add at least one new mutant on the 60's. Maybe on the x-men side. and on the future, I think we'll have a new secondary role, and then some cameos here and there. |

I cant help but think at times they are tackling DOFP a bit early, I may be alone in this but I think a better way to go would have been another FC cast movie, adding a few more mutants to each team and going through the dynamics of the story, and THEN doing DOFP, I just feel we havent had enough time with the FC characters to align them with their future counterparts just yet.
I have faith with Singer at the helm, as he is a very good director in my eyes, I just hope it means some characters and characterisations arent compromised.

I think DOFP would have been perfect as the third film. In that scenario, original actors would look a bit older (like the storyarc), the same as 60's x-men, so they wouldnt look like teenagers as in FC, and would be a more solid team. But I understand Fox trying to have their BIG movie after Avengers, so after all these months, Im fine. I think Singer will give both casts similar screentime and development, so as long as he does that, the movie will be perfect. Last edited by Angamb; 11-07-2012 at 09:28 AM. |

While X3 wasn't as good as I hoped (I don't think it was completely terrible), I still wanna see what will happen with the characters. In particular, Wolverine. This is also why I'm excited for The Wolverine. I really wanna see what Logan's mindset is after losing Jean and Charles. |

have just seen some of the deleted scenes from First Class and the code names scene...
and I dont care what some fans say, I think its so great to see the young x-men training and knowing each other. Its such a fresh air for the franchise and I honestly cant wait to see more from this. both on Days of future past and future sequels. It would be great to see how this young team evolves and gets better and bigger with each sequel. Cant wait for the day that the team from the past has around 6 or 7 members. We'll have to some years for that, but the day it comes, I will enjoy it like a happy kid ![]() ![]() Last edited by Angamb; 11-07-2012 at 11:02 AM. |

I'm hoping for at least one new member to join the team. 3 members seems pretty small to me, especially considering what they'll be up against in DOFP.

I may be overthinking this, but I think ideally, DAYS OF FUTURE PAST would cast the 60's X-Men into a future that takes place in an alternate timeline that takes place about the same time as the previous franchise.
Whatever the event the X-Men are going to have to stop from happening, the Brotherhood obviously needs to be involved. Whatever happens is going to cause humanity to persecute mutants, and to unleash Sentinels at some point in the future. Here's the most important part: With this more widespread persecution of mutants as a result of whatever threat the X-Men need to stop, and the concept of Sentinels eventually in play, William Stryker's lone actions in X2 become unneccessary, so the Alkali Lake disaster need never have happened in this timeline, allowing Jean Grey to survive past the timeframe X2 would have taken place, and altering the course of the future, by eliminating the attempt at the cure, and the events surrounding Dark Phoenix, which means Cyclops and Xavier would also have survived, in theory. That way, even if it's just in a few sequences, we could see a future that involves Xavier, Cyclops in the badass team leader capacity that everyone wants, Wolverine, Jean Grey, Storm, Rogue, Iceman, Colossus and Kitty Pryde. Beast could easily be involved, given his history with the team. Angel could be involved, I suppose, as I would imagine in a world of persecuted mutants, he would have eventually found his way to the X-Men. Given that all mutants were being hunted, we could possibly even see McKellan's Magneto, the original franchise's Mystique and Pyro working alongside the X-Men. A last stand sequence could show James Marsden's Cyclops as a true field leader and the powerhouse fans have wanted to see for years, albeit probably going down fighting. We'd get to see the "real" X-Men one last time. And then the lion's share of the story could still involve the fledgling X-Men and Brotherhood, with Xavier, Banshee, Havoc and Beast, trying to stop the actions of Magneto and his brotherhood that would lead to this disastrous future. The more I think about the possibilities, the more excited I become.

I think Singer loves to work with female roles, even if the males were the focus on his movies. He did a good job with Rogue on X1, more some great scenes from Jean and Mystique, so I think he will be interested in a new girl on the 60s. |

But the main candidates are probably: Psylocke - unlikely if we already have two psychics (Xavier, Emma) Polaris - same powers as Magneto, family link to Magneto might be too complex to include, fits best with other team members and the 60s era Dazzler - at least her powers would work with Banshee providing the sound, though she seems better suited to the disco era of the 70s

curiously I see those mutants in this order:
Polaris: in the 60's, just like the comcis. Dazzler: in the 70's Psylocke: in the 80's. Once Scoot, Jean and Ororo are already introduced. I think Bryan could easily introduce Lorna on this sequel without adressing her connection to Erik yet. There could be a great short battle in the final part of the movie, and in the third movie, to adress their connection. It would give her a decent arc and wouldnt seem rushed, like to do it all in just one movie. |

Lorna Dane aka Polaris would be the best fit for another character to join the First Class team, if it's not overkill to have a second magnetic mutant in the film.

I think it would be the first time to see two characters having the same power.
And to have such an iconic villain like Magneto possibly fighting with a young girl... I find it really really interesting and kind of epic. Singer would do it justice, for sure |

I just can't see them going with Polaris in these films, ever. Too complicated. They were also very forthcoming about the fact that they chose a lot of the mutants for FC based on which powers we hadn't really seen before (hence the utterly useless Riptide and Angel). I imagine we'll get some lesser knowns in DOFP and I am totally fine with that. Keeps it interesting. |

Of course they weren't 'random' either. Vaughn's always wanted to add more sex to the X-Men - I recall when he wanted to use mutant prostitute Stacy X in his version of X3. No surprise that he had a mutant stripper in X-Men: First Class (as well as Emma Frost hardly wearing anything!). But Angel also served to be a flying counterpart to Banshee. No point in having him flying around on his own, there needed to be an adversary who was also airborne. Riptide provided the destructive might to wreck the first Cerebro and bring down the X-jet. You can see why they needed someone like that in the story. Plus, tornadoes look cool, as we know from the scene with Storm in X2. But the thing is that Angel and Riptide are minor characters and not who fans expected/wanted to see. I don't think they should be dumped without explanation though; that's no way to build a franchise and a good continuity.

Singer could pull it off perfectly without the need to tell their connection during the whole movie. And she could be developed during two sequels, not just one. She could be introduced in one movie, and to adress their possible connection on the next sequel, so that wouldnt feel rushed and they will have time to develop the main threat of each movie and lead characters while adding little scenes here and there to develop the younger x-men. Again, its just about a quality team and a good vision. |

One way of doing it - just off the top of my head - would be that the government and CIA is starting to create a mutant database after the events at the end of First Class and among the ones they find is Lorna Dane.
When they see she has magnetic powers, they recruit her to help track and trap Magneto. Maybe she pretends to be his daughter and publicly appeals to find her father, just to attract his attention. She wouldn't really be his daughter in the film but it would be a way of dealing with the family link, especially since the comics told us for decades that she was not his daughter. When she was first introduced, she was deceived into thinking Magneto was her father, so it could be the other way round in the movie.
