Idiana Jones is a nostalgia property that lives on among the older fans of the original movies. The character itself is not that relevant to the younger audience who would just as easily see a nathan drake film over some recast indiana jones. |

It was either him or Natalie Portman as his daughter... Good thing The Lost World came out.

Just cast Fassbender and no one could possibly complain.

Here's the thing, it's a period piece. In the 80's it was a period piece. So, appeal isn't the problem.
The problem is that the character is 65. What made Indie cool is that he was... a suave, bad ass archeologist / spy who got the girl and saved the... whatever. Yeah, you can be bad ass at 65, but it isn't the same. Could you make a successful movie about a 65 year old Indiana Jones? Yes, and they did (even if fans had a less than stellar reaction). But a lot of the character's original appeal is gone. And it ain't coming back. I can't see Mutt Jones having quite the same appeal. |

Natalie Portman is like a gazillion times more appealing.

The film had a 100 M opening weekend and close to 800 M worldwide so OBVIOUSLY it still appealed to a large group of people young and old.

Yeah well Phantom Menace made a gazillion dollars too. That doesn't really mean anything except people will see any trash in the cinema if it's a sequel, remake or whatever of a beloved franchise.

Which means it has appeal. Also, liked the movie quite a bit. In fact loved it until the big family reunion. Then the writing got truly strange.

By "truly strange" you mean bad, right? Twilight has appeal too. That doesn't mean it's good.

And no, it didn't get bad. It had plenty to like about the last act. The problem is it also had the monkey swinging scene, the Jones/Marion reunion that feels really out of place in its teen crushness, and a bit of "everything is going to be ok" autopilot. But it still had Indy and the rpg, the great sword fight, the giant ant attack, Cate whooping backside and a great finale. Oh, and I also finally got to see Indy get his girl. On certain days I'd probably take it over Crusade.

Fassbender is good, but could he capture that Indy spirit. Basically having to play slapstick at times and kind of out of his element, even if he is a swashbuckling hero. As much action and drama as this franchise has, he has to have some comedy chops.

I don't see why not. I just keep imagining him putting the hat over his eyes, getting ready for a rest classic Indy style and it just fits.

If Fassbender becomes a cure-all for every action role available, people will get sick of him like they got kinda sick of Bale. He should be used sparingly. He's already attached to enough franchises.

I never get sick of the right actor in the right role. Also don't even know what you mean about Bale. He picks plenty of different types of roles.

^LOL, I think because we hear guys like Fassbender and Cumberbatch bandied around for every single male lead role in existence, until the next acting phenom comes along.

Um what? Sick of Bale because of too many action flicks. That doesn't even make sense. You sir have no idea what you're talking about

That is an internet problem, not an actor/casting problem. Applying forum mentality to what has actually happen is just... wrong.

He got spread a bit too thin when he was John Connor as well as being Batman.

If supershadow is to be believed, George and Steven have Indy 5,6,and 7 plotted out - all three would feature Indy and Mutt. If Harrison calls it a day, then George might consider a separate series around Mutt using the same ideas, but Steven would not be part of it. George is known for having a plan one day and a new plan the next day.
The ideas for 5,6,7 are consistant with what was set up in KoCS - more or less. |

I'd rather have Indie recast than a spinoff of Mutt Williams films.
