Highmore really does look like Perkins, and Farmiga's lovely as always.

Following in the footsteps of The Walking Dead and American Horror Story, looks good.

I'm not sure I understand the chronology of this series. I was just looking through the photo gallery and there was a picture of Highmore as Norman listening to an iPod. Does this show not take place before the '60s?

It's modern day. I wasn't expecting it to be, but it's not really a big deal for me. Psycho's a timeless story. There's nothing about Hitchcock's film that really ties it down to the era it was made in, other than it being when it was made.

You have a point. I guess I always looked at Psycho as a period piece of sorts, so the idea of Norman Bates with an iPod is a little... jarring.

Why would it be set in the 60s if we're getting a Norman this young?

Because modern day doesn't feel right. I don't find the story to be timeless; I think it only really succeeds in the time frame it was allotted.

No, I get your point of view. I'm just saying that, even if you got what you wanted, it wouldn't be 60s-set. The movie came out in 1960. This show is Norman probably at least 10 years younger. So it'd probably be more like late 40s/early 50s.

I probly meant 50s; I sometimes blend 50s and early 60s together.

It would've been great if this was set in the late 1940s and the first article about its development never mentioned present day but it looks like it will be.
So its disappointing, 'cause it would've been great to have 5-6 seasons and have it line up with Psycho but now its just a re-imaging. Though that frees them up to make some changes.

I'd much rather prefer a show set in the '40s or '50s. Especially if they're going for a prequel series, it'd be nice to have a show that has the same aesthetic as the original film. Setting it in the present day is, like I said before, jarring.

If the show the was on AMC it would be set in the 40s but its on A&E and a period drama doesn't fit their current brand exactly, which is basically CBS Style Dramas (decent audience, no one talks about them). Fifteen years ago it would've but their current crop of original dramas have all been present day. The show itself seems a bit of an odd fit for A&E but other than that I'm looking forward to it.

The show being an odd fit for A&E is exactly why I'm looking forward to it.

You can create the title sequence, if Carlton Cuse likes your 15 second video.
http://www.aetv.com/bates-motel/contest/ You can win $2500, which I think is a joke of a prize considering A&E makes too much money off reality shows alone plus the show could run for 60 episodes and be played around the world.
