I get the feeling total recall could make just enough for it to be deemed a success. Nothing earth shattering but with WW it could finish in the green. The marketing has been horrendous though.

How is TDKR in Expendables 2 face? There is almost an entire month between the two. TDKR will be slowed down to point where it won't hurt Expendables by that time.

Nevermind, I thought Expendables 2 was to be released on the 3rd with The Bourne Legacy.

Yeah, I could see Total Recall being a hit. Fans of the original might hate the idea of a remake but I think people not as familiar with the concept could be intrigued. The visuals are stunning enough that I'll likely catch it in theaters unless it gets absolutely horrible reviews.

All the people saying Total Recall is going to bomb are failing to calculate one very important variable, and that is TDKR. Once again guys, it could suck golfballs. Even if the most likely scenario plays out, Total Recall can still make money. Seeing as the Sci-Fi genre drew in some pretty good audiences with Prometheus, I wouldnt be surprised if TR was a minor hit.

Yeah. Plus... and I know hardcore fans won't want to admit this but... the original Total Recall hasn't aged well. If you try and show someone (who has no knowledge of the concept) the trailer of the remake and then you show them the trailer for the original... they are going to want to see the remake, unless they are a sucker for Arnold one-liners.

Seriously though , it's not his best film but the remake doesn't look great either.

Well, Recall's budget is at 200 million (240m in total, possibly), so in order for TR to be a minor hit, it'll have to make 200 million domestically and another 200 million internationally. Now, this film could end up being good or even great but the marketing has been ****.

Co-sign for The Watch. Looks ****ing terrible. The sad thing is they're not even highlighting Ayoade, who's far too talented for that steam pile. Jonah, too, actually.

I agree. We have only seen one picture of Depp as Tonto and I already think this movie would be terrible, plus his POTC movies have steadily decline in terms of box office gross, and he doesn't get that many blockbusters elsewhere when he's not wearing the mascara as Capt. Jack Sparrow. Disney shouldn't shelved the movie when the budget when overboard, and I think they're only doing it because of Depp's star powers and the money he made for them from POTC and Alice in Wonderland movies.

Tropic Thunder survived TDK, I'd imagine an even cheesier, more violent, version, with Arnold, Sly and Bruce would do just fine.

TDKR won't threaten Expendables 2 (it'll be released on August 17th) but Total Recall and The Watch (especially) could very well get swallowed up.

Tropic Thunder didn't exactly make a killing either, but it didnt flop nor underwhelm. It got its budget back and it made a decent profit but early positive reviews really saved that film from a possible thrashing. The Watch is going to need the identical treatment from the critics.

It wasn't a mega hit, but it survived, from memory TDK did some serious damage to the films released in it's wake.

I still cant believe Total Recall cost that much to make. I mean that is a huge risk in putting that much money into a reboot that they had to known would get panned by the fans.

Adjusted for inflation, Total Recall brought in $223m domestically and around $500 million total. So there is an older fan base out there but not to justify $200 million with Colin Farrel. It should've been capped at $125 or $150. It may be the Rise of the Planet of the Apes of 2012 in being surprisingly better than most summer film.

But will it draw in more people than Bourne Legacy, The Campaign and The Expendables 2 up against Dark Knight Rises with The Watch? TDKR will likely have $45m+ for it's third weekend, is Recall going to to make more than that for it's opening weekend? Again, smart move by Universal to blink first and move Bourne back a week.

I really want Expendables 2 to flop, simply because Chuck Norris is in it, and he's a despicable, bigoted pig.

Well, Total Recall will flop if it sucks. If its good I don't see a reason why it can't make a little cash.

People need to see it and it will likely get lost among the shuffle.

I don't follow politics so luckily Norris hasn't pissed me off. Anything he says now I'll just attribute to old age stubbornness.

I suppose I could look past Norris' birther bullsh** if I actually felt he ever was a good or watchable actor, but I've honestly never seen his appeal. Stallone, Arnold, Willis... they might not be the best actors but at least they had enough charisma that their movies were fun to watch. However, I can't even say that I'd see Expendables 2 for them because I really didn't think the first one was very good.
