CoF: Again you drafted in Armani for Bruce Wayne’s suits. Fashion brands do not always combine well with costume design (Black Swan being a recent example), but presumably you experienced no such issues?

LH: No one prevailed upon me to use Armani either last time or this. It just seems the right choice for a man (Bruce Wayne) who is pretending to be a wealthy playboy. It would not be the kind of menswear for James Bond, for instance, but using designers for product placement in this way can benefit the costume budget, and providing they let you design the garment and choose the fabrics yourself, you are not compromising your character.

CoF: Tell us about Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle…

LH: Selina Kyle we decided was a kind of female version of Bruce Wayne, she is a cat burglar and an opportunist, so must, rather like James Bond, be able to ‘pass’ or be ‘hidden in plain sight’. My influences were La Femme Nikita, and Audrey Hepburn, with a medium dose of Thierry Mugler thrown in for theatricality. All her clothes were designed by me, and made by / in our workshops, including all her underwear which needed to be worn under the cat suit. Whatever event she decided to be at, she could invent a look that would work, from Maid at Wayne Manor, to Woman Going to a Funeral at the airport.

CoF: So what was the intention behind Selina Kyle’s blue dress in the final Florence cafe scene? Moving on?

LH: Yes, something like that. She is now, like Bruce Wayne, living in the ‘normal’ world, and should look like any other holidaymaker in Italy. To her (Anne Hathaway) and myself, that kind of blue signifies happiness and has good connotations. Wish we had seen more of it, but it’s a mysterious scene.

I wish Lindy talked about Bruce's clothes in Italy because while I liked the meaning of him wearing a happy color, that shirt was still unfortunate.

So what was the general reaction of the new batcave? There was a lot of discussion on how it shud be. I thought it was good, especially for Bale's Batman. It wasn't crowded unnecessarily and was pretty faithful to the original in Begins.

Anyways, I'm glad Bale is getting his due. It's really starting to sink in that his time has come and gone when it comes to the cape and cowl.

I don't see anyone can do better job than Bale in near future. I guess next guy will be some pumped up pretty face in Batsuit like other superheroes. I'm already "hater" of next Batman.

Also he supports victims, makes chinese officials mad, rages against unprofessionalism as much as Batman does.

His Bruce Wayne will be hard to beat, especially if they go with the "Bruce is just a mask" thing. But his Batman can and will be beaten.

Why would Bale's Batman be easily beatable, anyhow?

It's at the very least on par with the previous best, Michael Keaton.

IMO given the longevity and now iconic growl voice, whether you love it or hate it, it's often imitated (see Watchmen) ... he's pretty much stamped the character in a way never done before.

I highly doubt it will be that easily beaten.

He had the looks of Kilmer, the charm of Clooney as Wayne, the intensity in the eyes and nuanced anger of Keaton's Batman ... while combining something all others lacked ... menacing PHYSICAL presence and posture.

Bale is the GOAT Bruce Wayne and Batman on screen.

I think Bale's Batman is better than that of Keaton, Kilmer and Clooney and I don't think that it will be easily beaten.

I can't think of any actors who are fan favorites right now to perform better than Bale, it would be hard to top.

If it does happen, the I would be happy to be proven wrong.

No one else will ... Bale is the best actor to don the cape and cowl. He's one of the best of his generation period in terms of acting chops.

Who on earth is going to top him? And if anything, how will they potray the character of the Batman?

There isn't much new territory left to tread. Bale was the first to potray him as an animal of theatricality the way he is in much of the contemporary source material. Whether people liked it or not, Bale had the balls to take the character new places.

Keaton did the silent spectre, dracula, urban boogeyman thing of the early Bob Kane era ... Bale did the contemporary animal vigilante of the Frank Miller, Jeph Loeb, Neal Adams era.

More like being realistic. If he gets surpassed, awesome ... but him not being surpassed is far more likely.

Bale is the Mike Jordan of Batmans.

Sure talented people will come along after him, and challenge the throne. But like Jordan was for basketball, Bale was virtually the PERFECT storm to play the character of an obsessed, slightly demonic, mentally ill ... yet moral compass filled DARK KNIGHT.
