Trout is incredible, he's been wearing out the Yankees. It will be interesting to see his trajectory over the next 10 years vs. Bryce Harper's.

Might get to a point where you just can't pitch to him and gotta' go four-away. When's the last time that happened with a rookie?

Great question, I can't think of any recently. Lawrie of the Blue Jays went nuts for a while last year, but that was for a couple of weeks. Griffey Jr. had a great rookie year with 19 homers, McGuire had 49 as a rookie (tainted), but Trout is a legitimate MVP candidate, a five-tool guy. Ridiculous.

Trout is one of the best players to break into the majors in years. At the beginning of the season I thought Harper was going to tear it up this year, Trout was a bit of a surprise for me. I knew he was good, not this good. I still give credit to Harper with how he plays the game, anyone who has seen him play in just one game knows he literally plays like it's his last.

The Pirates lose another series against a decent team. I am trying to be excited. I really am. But it seems like every time that they have a series against a somewhat competent team, be it the Brewers, the Dodgers, the Braves, The Orioles or whoever, they get their asses handed to them. I can't help but shake this feeling that the Pirates aren't a legit team but simply the best of the mediocre teams and their winning record so far is only an illusion caused by a very weak schedule and playing in the weakest division of the MLB.
If that is the case, I'd rather see them collapse. If they have a winning season, that bum in the front office Neal Hunnington will get a contract extension (despite being entirely mediocre) and that ass of an owner, Bob Nutting, will be validated for treating shared revenue like his own personal piggy bank and profiting off of it. These men need run out of town, not pat on the back for putting together a top tier piece of ****.

I was shocked that he didn't give up a run. Great for Sheets, I used to love watching him a few years back. Hope he keeps playing well.

The Pirates are down 5-1 in the SECOND inning.
I'm starting to think Matt was right all along. The Rockies suck and their handing the Pirates their asses.

Only they aren't competitive. They have consistently had their asses kicked by any above .500 team that they have played. They are winning on the merit of a weak schedule and being in the weakest division in the MLB.
But yes, that Neal Hunnington. The same Neal Hunnington who signed Jose Tabata to a ridiculous contract only to ship him to AAA. The same Neal Hunnington who blew the first round draft pick (after this kid already burned the Tigers in the same exact manner last season). And that is just going based off of his embarrassments this year. Let's not look at his other 5 embarrassing years as GM. Hell, he can't even take credit for McCutchen. That was his predecessor.

If true then too bad...I was hoping they'd genuinely be picking up this year.

Well, I had to eat my words from yesterday (not that I'm complaining). It's good to see the Buccos come back strong when Cutch isn't having a great day.
Anyway, sorry to fact-check you here Matt, but the Pirates have won series against the Nats, Reds, Cards, Indians, Tigers and Giants this season... all above .500 teams. They might not be able to keep it up (God knows, I was ready to go into my usual "just ignore baseball" mode after they lost the series to the Brewers) but I'm hoping they can keep it going. I do think they need to bring on some new guys before the trade deadline though. Jones, Walker and (occasionally) Alvarez are good but I think they need at least one more consistent hitter; preferably a right fielder. And it wouldn't hurt them to add another pitcher, because McDonald has been awful for two games straight and Bedard has sucked all season. Their next two series are at home (and one is against the awful Cubs) so that bodes well for them; they still have the best home record in the league. And with the Reds' Votto and the Brewers' Braun battling injuries right now, Pittsburgh has a great opportunity to take control of the division... they just need to keep winning.

I'm not the biggest sports fan but I must express my sincere disappointment over Ichiro going to the Yankees. Very sad day for The Mariners over here.
