Like most comic book films, Iron Man has fallen into the classic trap of killing off it's villains.
Iron Monger and Whiplash have both met their ends at near the conclusion of their respective films. The Mandarin though is THE Iron Man villain. Would you like to see him killed off at the end of Iron Man 3 if it comes to that? Or have him jailed. Vanish. Escape to survive for a possibly return in another film?

I'd like them to leave his fate ambiguous. Maybe Stark thinks he's dead, and the audience isn't sure either way, but he's never actually shown dying or being blown up or whatever.

Black said they want to leave it all out on the field. So it sounds like they want to make this a climactic third act. I'd say leave his fate ambiguous but who knows.

Would anyone like the idea of using the post credit scene in IM3 to give hint towards him surviving, after maybe making it seem like he died at the end of the film?

We *might* already know the IM3 post-credit scene, if the rumor is true; if so, the post-cred teases a different hero, not Iron Man.
As for Mandy, I can't see Kingsley being the kind of actor who'd be willing to commit to a long-term franchise, and I can't see Mandarin as the kind of villain that Marvel needs to revisit in future IM or Avenger films.

I hope he lives. I'd like to see Mandarin show up in the future.

Mandarin and Iron Man stare at each other. Closeup of Iron Man's mask. Iron Man charges.
*Cut to black* Post credits scene Mandarin and Iron Man are on the floor. Mandarin is breathing heavily. IronMan's head is resting on The Mandarin's chest

I guess it is a bit of a cliche that the villian accidentally kills himself in the end.

I'd also say to leave it ambiguous. The character could still serve a purpose down the line.
Though since Kingsley is around 70-years-olds, age could be a problem.

I'd like Mandarin to survive. He's the main Iron Man bad guy, you have to have him back for more. With Iron Monger and Whiplash, the way it played out in the movies I don't think there would have been much point to either living. It felt like their stories came to a conclusion.
Also, Hammer is still alive, so they're not all dead. Although that's a moot point since it doesn't look like he's returning.

Don't kill him off. I say only kill off the villain if absolutely necessary, to leave future options open (a la Loki reappearing in Avengers).

I`ld like to see the final battle end with both of them almost dying. 'The Mandarin' is presumed dead. In the end you see A.I.M members being led by 'The Mandarin' |

Think Red Skull. In the moment, you think he might be dead. But when you think about it..........

How many MCU villians have actually died?
Only Iron Mongerer and Whiplash (and the destroyer and a bunch of frost giants if you count them) Red Skull has most likely been transported somewhere Loki is still alive Hammer taken into custody So is General Ross and The Abomination is in custody by S.H.I.E.L.D For the MCU that's a pretty good track record and I'd prefer them to survive and be taken into custody. It'd be great to get a glimpse (in phase III or something) of this super prison with a few of them sitting in jail cells and stuff. |

There is a comic leading up to The Avengers, that is about SHIELD and it takes place in the MCU and shows how SHIELD has had a hand in all these events. How they collected up the pieces of the Destroyer (which is how Colsun got that gun in the movie) put Abomination in prison and all this ****. Good read.

Stane dying was supposed to happen. It just followed the comics. As for Vanko, most of Iron Man's tech enemies return in the comics but with a new person using said tech. So you have many Crimson Dynamos and Titanium Men, etc. If an individual dies it's not as big a deal. Now I'm with you on Mandy, he's more of a one of a kind villain and Tony never killed him in the comics(that I can recall) so here's hoping he survives.

Hm. Now that I think about it, every villain from the other films have survived, right? Loki, Red Skull (He's coming back, we know it.), Abomination. Stark has no self-restraint!
Unless you consider Laufey to be the main villain of Thor anyway. |

Unlike the other Avengers, Tony Stark has a proven track record of not effin' around, and just straight up killing his enemies. Raza, Stane, Vanko....arguably the greater portion of the Chitauri race....and it's almost 100% likely that Killian will get repulsor-ized in IM3 (since he definitely died a horrible death in the comics). So: the prognosis doesn't look good for Mr. Mandarin. Tony Stark is a stone cold killer.

Stane had Raza killed(along with the rest of his terrorist cell). Tony didn't do it. Technically Vanko killed himself(if he's even dead, we never saw a dead body and we didn't even see him blow up). Stane's about the only one you can lay on Tony(and Pepper) and even that was more of a side effect of shutting his armor down rather than outright trying to kill him.

I have no problem with offing the villains. Its best explained in the How Iron man Should Have Ended video on youtube. Stark says.."Haven't u learned by now that when you imprison your enemies, they just break out and vow revenge?"..lol

Totally. The trailers made me really excited about the potential of his character. He seemed like such a badass. Not so much in the final film.

"You lose."
So it was made pretty obvious that Iron Monger and Whiplash are dead... But what scenario could there be where both survived? Assuming Vanko's suit didn't actually explode. In both cases it would've been their armor that shielded them from any blast damage. If they didn't escape, SHIELD would have came along and collected them. Are they being held in the same SHIELD prison as Abomination? Perhaps they are even sharing a cell. They will probably never see the light of day again. |
