Agreed, but some people already well know that I agree.

I flip back and forth between this and Batman 1989 so much... I can never decide which is better. (But I think Returns edges out)
It's almost like everything he got right in B89 he got wrong in BR and vice versa. I would have loved to have seen Michelle's Catwoman in Anton Furst's Gotham.

My #1 biggest complaint about BR will forever be that they didn't return to Furst's Gotham.

Yep... thats the biggest shame.
I'm surprised Burton didn't at least work with Furst to see if he could change or improve his designs (to keep them both creatively interested).

Who knows what Furst's mental state was so few months before his death.
I could be wrong, but I remember hearing somewhere that all of the B89 sets were still standing in the London studios at the time of BR's development. But for tax reasons or something, they decided to shoot in LA instead, and all of the sets were destroyed.

^I have no idea about that, but Burton and Welch weren't going to just take out the old sets anyway. I like Bo Welch's Gotham, and to me it's still recognizably close enough to what came before that it doesn't feel like BR takes place in a totally different world.

Really? It feels like a different world to me...
The only thing they kept the same was the Batmobile.

And I'm pretty sure Burton said he wanted it to feel like a different world as well.

No I know... and I appreciate that.
He wanted to remain creatively energized. I do enjoy the somewhat claustrophobic atmosphere.

Right after making a movie that looks and sounds exactly like Batman Returns.

As for not using the Furst Gotham again, I loved how B89 looked. But I also like what they did for BR and I'm not as bothered about the change. Getting two different interpretations was cool IMO, and I like both for different reasons.

My main problem with BR's Gotham is how small it seemed. Most of the exterior Gotham scenes happen in Gotham Plaza.
But small as it seemed it was a beautiful Gotham City especially with the snow.

I still think the cinematography in Batman Returns is amazing... doesn't show it's age at all.

Yeah it's a great transfer, which is odd. The blu ray transfers for 66, 89, Returns, Forever, and B&R was better than Nolan's Batman blu ray releases (minus the IMAX shots in TDK).

This is still my favorite Burton movie, my only gripe with Gotham was everything seemed to take place in the same street-area, The city hall-Shreck's Store, etc...everything just happened to be within walking distance...
...the shots @ Penguin's hideout in the end interior and exterior I always thought looked amazing...I feel they did a great job with the design elements of the Zoo...
