Marvel will end up getting some no name television director with like one, all ages entertaining movie on his resume.
In a perfect world though I wouldn't mind seeing Gore Verbinski give it a shot. |

That's an inspired choice, but he'd probably try to get Johnny Depp to play Star-Lord

And he'd go tens of millions over-budget before even shooting the first scene. Something tells me that Disney isn't going to be anxious to hire Verbinski after all the trouble he's given them on Lone Ranger.

What about a guy like Peter Berg? I know Battleship bombed but he's shown in the past that he can handle a huge budget and ensemble casts.

Neill Blomkamp or Duncan Jones would be perfect. But I dont see them doing it.
Know who I think would do well, and its a leftfield choice, Andrew Stanton. John Carter had some problems, but overall was a fun romp, and Stanton did the creatures and aliens perfectly. I know the movie bombed, but I think he could do GOTG justice.

Goddard's the best realistic option I can think of at the mo.
(In terms of that he has no other project he's in line to direct, that I can imagine him being a fan of the material, and that he's been on Marvel's short list before). |

I was thinking Rupert Wyatt, he did Rise of the Planet of the Apes!
He definetly got the story right, and it was grounded.. His working on the sequel to Apes, so he won't be making it for GOTG.. But Im definetly behind Joseph Kosinski... But hey Kevin Fiege knows what's he doing, |

The development on that movie is only in its infancy though, I doubt we'll see it before GOTG hits.
I thought he did quite well with the actors, Kitsch wasnt the best but the rest of the cast were perfectly fine, especially the ones portraying the Tharks. Kitsch was the only one who didnt seem to fit.

David Twohy is another director who could do it as well, and he has experience in sci-fi.

I have a better chance of getting the nod than Andrew Stanton. Neeeever gonna happen. He will have to stick to directing Pixar sequels for the foreseeable future.
I like a lot of the suggestions in here. Someone who is adept at comedy would be a plus. Wonder if Whedon would be interested in writing the script and maybe producing. In that scenario, I think you have broader options for directors. |

Kenneth Branagh is gearing up for the new Jack Ryan movie so I'm not sure he will be able to do it.
Also isn't Rupert Wyatt doing the Apes prequel sequels?

Even Kitsch wasn't really that bad. The movie was actually pretty decent. It's just too bad Stanton let the budget blow up and that the marketing was so terrible.

Yeah, there was nothing deeply wrong with the movie as filmed. It just cost too much to make, and the marketing was inept. I suspect that an experienced co-director could have cut 50M off the budget, and good marketing could have nearly doubled the gross.
