With TDKR it is PAIN.
Many characters are dealing with physical (and emotional) injuries old and new. Gordan is physically injured and facing the emotional open wound of an honest man keeping a lie alive. Bane embodies pain: he delivers it and has to manage his own with his mask. Bruce/Batman is facing emotional and physical pain, past and present...he ultimately reconciles his pain, ending Batman, and we see him renewed moments before the credits. IMO, TDKR has a theme of PAIN. And in the context of the film and Bruce's journey, for me at least, it is quite appropriate and climatic. Last edited by DerTommissar; 07-29-2012 at 03:11 PM. I see the "new release" factor is working in TDKR's favor. For me, TDK still tops it by a bit.

If you say so, but Pain and Consequences trumps Chaos and Escalation for me.

Begins set the whole tone, I like bb, tdkr, tdk last..... Tdk felt over timed with nonsense. Also I think I'm the only one who thought ledger was just ok rather then put on a pedis tool like everyone else does

Well... Ledger's performance was the 'crème de la crème'.
And I find it hilarious that posters are actually seeking excuses for why TDKR is leading the poll. ![]() |

Close call ... but, I vote The Dark Knight. It is the villains the put it over the top.
Begins was a great origin story. Completely perfect from the beginning to near the end. But, the villains were the weakest of the series by far, and the threat against Gotham is the smallest. Ras al'Ghul and Scarecrow were actually rather feeble as Batman villains go ... just can't come close to the combination of Joker/Dent or Bane/Catwoman. TDKR was sweeping and epic. The threat was real and palpable. For the first time, the movie saw Bruce's safety at risk. It mixed the epic threat of TDK with the Wayne-focused storyline of Begins. The ending was perfect, and wrapped up the series nicely. Bane was a great villain ... and Catwoman was well played. A great movie. But, Bane and Catwoman, even played at the peak possible, cannot match up to the combo of Joker and Two Face. TDK had the perfect combination of villains. Joker was enthralling for every second he was on the screen -- a Hannibal Lecter-level performance. He is easily the best villain of the series ... even if he wasn't as physically threatening to Batman as Bane was. But, he was psychologically threatening. Harvey Dent ended up a compelling a tragic villain, definitely the best secondary villain of the series. The combination of Joker and Dent was the only combo that actually beat The Batman in the end. TDK is the ESB of Nolan's Batman movies. KBZ |

It's a close call between BB and TDK. BB was a great journey, watching Bruce Wayne train, prepare and slowly turn into the Batman. And it was the one Movie where thugs were thinking he's some thing, not a man. And TDK, well, that had the freaking Joker, doing what he does best and and one of the best Batman moments, when he took methodically the entire SWAT team out.
TDKR is still a great Movie, but it ranks below the first two Movies. Too little Batman, fighting like a bloody newb against Bane in their first encounter, Talia simply being wasted and the ending where Bruce just quits and has a happy life, is just so not Batman. So I rank them... 1. TDK 2. BB 3. TDKR

I think that as time passes, The Dark Knight Rises will come to be considered the best of the trilogy.

I'd say the theme of TDKR is faith.
Bane's followers had faith in him. Bane had faith in Talia. Gordon and Blake had faith in Batman. And Batman had faith in Gotham. All of the major characters in the movie were driven by faith in something, for one reaosn or another.
