I think any inclusion of Batman in memorial signs, however well-intentioned, is goofy and runs the risk of trivializing it.
We all love Batman, but he's a comic character. He's not real. This is.

Yeah, I agree....my theater has really never been one where people wore costumes to these movies....mine is not an AMC, but I doubt there were many if any that will be showing up in character so to speak.

Was so excited yesterday, Went to the midnight showing and left on such a high feeling, went to sleep and woke up to this. Now I just feel meh about everything. It makes me realize there are far more important things.

Exactly. It is in no way necessary to connect the two. I don't know the shooters motives, but I highly doubt Batman had anything to do with it. This was just a populated event that guaranteed this psycho his victims.

My thoughts are with the family and friends of the fans that died in this horrible incident.
I myself took my 14 y/o daughter to the AMC trilogy event here in California, our event started at 6:00 and it ended at 3:00 am, everything went right for us, daughter was having fun, I myself been an avid movie fan was super excited for the conclusion of this trilogy, but for some odd reason I couldn't concentrate on what was been showed on the IMAX screen and kept glimpsing towards the emergency exit doors throughout the whole 9 hours of this event.. I had a weird feeling and it was very odd because before thursday I was super excited about this event. TDKR Movie ended, everybody clapped in excitement, daughter and myself left the theatre while lots of people stayed in the halls talking about it and more people arrived for the 3 am showings.. got home, went to sleep, got up today at 8 am to get ready for work, turn on the tv to find the horrible news, my heart stopped, and a sudden feeling of sadness went thru my body, thinking about how I felt while watching the movie, my lost of concentration and how I kept looking towards the emergency exits... I guess sometimes when something bad is going to happen some of us get that "weird feeling". I have 1 more TDKR showing on real IMAX with my wife this sunday, even though I feel very uneasy and insecure, its a great movie that I definitely want to see again and I am thinking of a way to show respect to the fans who died in Aurora last night, maybe create a tshirt with a nice message and wear it at sundays showing, an armband or a black bow.. Anybody has other stories to share about last night TDKR showings? Sorry if I extended too much, needed to vent about whats going on thru my mind. |

I see no problem talking about this will impact the BO, because it is a legitimate question....but can be discussed in the Batman BO thread....this thread isn't really the place. Some people grieve differently, show remorse differently, show empathy differently....but it doesn't mean that they don't feel all of those things.... So, lets go both directions on this.... We ask that people talk about the BO in the proper place, the BO thread on the Batman forum....and others like yourself refrain from using this place to call people out when REALLY, most of us are feeling the same way you are...so let's reflect on that, and move on from this line of discussion. |

Just came back from a trip to hear about this. How awful.
I heard he had dyed hair and was calling himself the joker. What a lunatic. He deserves much worse than prison. My prayers go out to the families affected by this.

Media is already including his middle name... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/0...ef=mostpopular, road to infamy. I'm sure there is already some Hollywood douchebag producer thinking about how they are going to turn this into a horrible movie.

I saw to 2/3 of the trilogy screening last night (had to run to catch my last bus before TDKR started - crazy, but I couldn't pass up the chance to catch the first two movies on the big screen again). Saw TDKR this morning.
Watching TDK on the screen again, I was a reminded what a god-awful loss Heath Ledger was, and I remember thinking last night how glad I was that no one had to deal with such a tragedy this time around. ...then I woke up this morning to hear about this. I'm just sick and angry about it. I've seen all 3 movies in the theater over the last 24 hours, and it was so much fun, everyone was having a blast, and I can't imagine the Colorado theater was any different than ours. It never crossed my mind that something like this could happen. I worried that someone from here was in that theater. Policing the Bat-boards is a headache, to say the least...but with all of those headaches there was so much excitement over the new movie that the last thing I wanted to hear was that we lost a friend from here in a tragedy like this. It's just awful. This was supposed to be fun.

Was that even confirmed? I got the idea from the press conference that that wasn't true. I think someone made that up. They said he was dressed all in black riot gear, how would anyone have known what his hair was?

Have we identified them? Are they safe?

Did he have any roommates? One article said he had two roommates, was wondering if that is just rumor or fact. How would it be booby trapped without roommates knowing about it, unless they had moved out or something.

There are a lot of young people out there these days with little prospects in the world that feel so hopeless they would rather escape. Not saying this guy is one of them, but it makes you wonder about the future of things.

The ***** of it is, it hasn't even been 24 hours yet. I don't really want to see anymore of the photos. The scenario is horrifying, a crowded room, people elbow to elbow in their seats, in the dark, and then he walks on in...

To me it seems very obvious that this guy is a rogues gallery obsessed loon who didn't just pick out the TDKR midnight premiere because of the crowds but because it was....well TDKR.
I feel really bad for the people. While watching TDKR this morning it never really left my head. What a nasty cloud of tragedies that loom over this series.
