I know the Mods mentioned to stop mentioning Batman, but it must be strange for Nolan and Co. right now learning about this news, of course we all know that the movie has nothing to do with this *******'s attack. Still, it's got to be a strange sensation looming over them.

God, reading some of the accounts is seriously chilling. Especially the Jessica's girl's twitter, so sad. She just wanted to see a movie. And the father losing a six year old daughter, I just can't imagine.

As much as I don't want to agree - I can't shake the fact that once we start hearing about statements from the piece of **** that did this, you'll be confirmed as correct.

To anybody not going to see the movie now; or even less enthused about it, please go. You looked forward to this for years. What happened is terrible, but you're gonna let 1 sicko rob you of this? I don't even like this trilogy and I feel more compelled to see this movie now actually. Sure, you all feel like this puts things into perspective in terms of what's important. You enjoying your life is important, even the 2 hours of this movie. So please go and enjoy

Agreed. I think this is almost more of a reason for folks to go, because it shows how precious every moment is. You probably won't enjoy it as much in lieu of the circumstances surrounding the screenings, but that's not important.

Consider his intellect.

He doesn't appear, from everything reported, to be an un-educated man. If he was a psychopath seeking fame, as some have suggested, then claiming insanity and pretending to act like he thinks he's a comic book character could seem like something he would think would protect him from the death penalty and being treated as unstable to stand trial. Then he could live to see whatever fame he thinks will come his way. I mean, the psycho could think he'd get away with it.

I went to a midnight show and didn't know about this until an hour ago and so I got to fully enjoy the film,I would've still gone&see it after knowing the news But I would have been thinking about it and especially during weapon shooting scenes!!

I would think the amount of premeditation would sort of nullify an insanity plea, maybe not though.

I can't imagine what they're going through either. Obviously, it doesn't compare to the families of the victims, but to have something like this happen after all the work they put in, after going through a tragedy on the last film...it's got to be heartbreaking.

For once, I actually don't agree with you - but I also think going to a film in costume is sort of a tired idea anyhow.

I don't get what moviegoers in costume has to do with this.

I don't think its going too far at all....this man was fully decked out, and walked right into a movie theater and did this.....no one blinked. They thought he was part of the movie experience, along with the smoke grenades...

People seeing someone coming in in costume, may turn right around and walk out.....simply because they don't feel comfortable.

I see no problem with this at all, I've always thought the costume thing was weird anyway....but I also always felt to each his/her own, even though it seemed weird to me....

Right now, is just not the time to be costuming up to go to the show....as someone said earlier when I announced this.....do that Comic-con....

This is so sad and horrific. It's mind-boggling how there are people out there with such a disregard towards human life, how they feel nothing by taking it away.

It's so terrible. All those people went to the cinema to get away from everyday life to simply enjoy a film.

I just hope this doesn't paralyze people with fear- although to be honest I almost decided to not go this weekend to the cinema. But that may be what people like that murder want- to put fear in people.

You just can't stop living your life, you shouldn't forget, but you shouldn't stop living.

I think that's perfectly reasonable, no reason to risk anything else happening just so people can dress up.

I can understand the ban and especially since it was a reason he made it in with the vest&mask But sure sucks for MANY who loves to support films for midnight shows&stuff,They better not ban costumes for kids!!

He's calling himself "The Joker"

Damn.. that's pretty fascinating.

I wonder how that will impact the future of the character.

A sympathy gesture would be appropriate, but nothing- not colored ribbons, or statements from Washington, or money, or anything else- really makes up for the loss of life.

We're going to hear a lot of talk in the days to come about the shooter, his obsessions, and what role the entertainment industry has in this. Regardless of what your opinions are on any of it, remember to enjoy the time you have, without the fear of how it might end. Few of us have a say in that, anyways. Nobody went to that theater to die, except perhaps the gunman. They went to have fun.

So love your loved ones a little more. Do something you've been putting off. Live without regrets. Grief is a natural part of mourning, but don't let this tragedy or any other stop you from appreciating the fact that you're here.

Since a line is trying to be drawn by some connecting this tragic event to the movie, I want to remind everybody of a similar line being drawn between the Tucson shooting in 2011 to the poisonous political rhetoric at the time. As time went on, that seemed to be all forgotten.

I want to share this for any interested. A lot of what's said can be applied to today.

Some of the younger viewers who got shot, like the baby may be born with deformities while it grows. Not to mention the horrific act of watching someone you know or loved die. We have to remember all the victims, even nameless ones who never got their story told but were in for a night of their life. It could have been anyone.

Exactly. If you avoid the movie because of this, Holmes wins.
