The student ID only let's people know who you are. It doesn't give you the right to vote. If you're not on the rolls, it doesn't matter what type of ID you have. The reason they don't want to except student IDs for identification purposes is because students tend to vote Democratic, and we wouldn't want that, now would we.

If the states were given the ok to clean up their rolls, I don't see why student ID's couldn't then be used....if you are not on the voting list, then you don't vote, whether you have an ID or not....that way the student doesn't have a chance to vote in 2 different places, their home and their college home that way a student ID could then be used to simply match name to face. I changed my DL, etc....to where I was going to college so that I didn't have that problem...but also, these students need to set it up to have an absentee ballot sent to them if they do not want to change their address....

The last sentence caught me. If we all had to show a photo ID to vote, how would a mailed in absentee ballot work?

I was speaking of the posters response, as the laws are right now....I assume that that will be a question for a long time to come. I was simply stating what students needed to do for elections as the laws state now. I had many friends that absentee voting while they were in college, and had no problems....but yeah, that will be something that has to be looked at, and I'm sure that there will be ideas as to how to take care of those issues....I don't know honestly, I don't know that showing ID to vote will ever be put in place....but that doesn't mean that I don't think everyone should carry some form of photo id....which is really my only stand on this.

COLUMBUS — Voter advocates on Saturday criticized an order by Ohio’s elections chief dealing with the casting of provisional ballots, saying it increases the likelihood that votes could be wrongly rejected.

The advocates, including lawyers for unions that previously sued over provisional ballots, said the order by Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted late Friday wrongly puts the burden of recording the form of ID used on a provisional ballot on voters, not poll workers.

“This increases the statistical likelihood of some inaccuracy on the form,” leading to the chance of those votes being rejected, Cleveland attorney Subodh Chandra said Saturday.

Husted now is ordering county elections boards to reject provisional ballots when ID information on a particular part of the ballot form is incomplete, contrary to a court decision on provisional ballots a week ago and contrary to statements made by attorneys for Husted at an Oct. 24 court hearing, Chandra and other attorneys said in a federal court motion late Friday.

Husted for the past 2 months seems to try every possible way to stop people from voting(trying to cut down on early voting, holding many issues in red tape for as long as he can before it's resolved). All that being said at least Ohio is not as bad as Florida for trying to reduce the rolls

An oldie but a goody

Paul Weyrich, "father" of the right-wing movement and co-founder of the Heritage Foundation, Moral Majority and various other groups tells his flock that he doesn't want people to vote. He complains that fellow Christians have "Goo-Goo Syndrome": Good Government. Classic clip from 1980. This guy still gives weekly strategy sessions to Republicans nowadays.

Miller told the Associated Press that the task force is currently investigating another alleged incident of someone trying to vote twice.

How funny is it that it was a Republican who got busted for doing what the Republicans were trying to prevent?!?!

Exactly. This gives more credence to the idea that voter id laws were a solution to a rather nonexistent problem.

Even the legislators here in Pennsylvania that wrote the ID law themselves have said there was no record of ANY instances of voter fraud in PA. for at least the last ten years, if at all. They were supposedly looking at it as a "preventative " measure. ( )

Well, I was talking about registration. I do not believe you should be able to use a student ID to register to vote. Now as far as identifying yourself at the polling place, that might be different.
