Default Do you think WB is looking to take Batman in a different direction?

Since The Avengers was such a major success at the box office, even more so than TDKR, does anyone else think that WB might want to make Batman less dark in the next series? Personally, I want them to keep it dark, but I can definitely see them bringing Batman Forever's style back as a possibility.

I personally hope they make it a lighter, but not to light. Make it light enough where we can have more comic booky stuff but not so light that we are back in the Burton-Schumacher era. In other words, make it like the Comics or the DCAU.

I think the real question is whether the WB's future movies should have a "house style". Should a Flash movie look like MOS or should they just allow any movie to feature it's own look. GL could look like Prometheus and MOS be it's own Malicky self.

Batman can still have gothic visuals but be lighter in terms of theme.

I think they do mostly for toys and junk like that.

Batman did well with three movies though. We'll see if The Avengers can keep up. IMO the only thing that movie had going for it was the team up. The action was good but other than that its a bunch of characters that failed on their own and had that goofy Marvel humor.

Considering that Bats two most successful films featured the Joker, I can see them not placing as many expectations on how the franchise will do. It will probably sink back down to normal WW numbers for a superhero flick.

i want the next set of Batman films to take cues from the Arkham games. Batman has for the most part been a pretty gritty character set in a dark world, and it should stay that way.

There's nothing gritty about a guy fighting with umbrellas or guy speaking in riddles if he doesn't kill people like Se7en. It can be dark but again, that slight change is what will seperate it from Nolan's more crime drama take.

It just needs to be original and respectful to the Batman universe. I am kind of tired of the realism that Nolan established (While EXCELLENT for his trilogy). I don't mind some of the more unrealistic villains as long as it does not become campy and the series is as badass as Nolan's trilogy

It should be more heavily in gothic visuals...BUT also more comic booky (so I guess "lighter") in terms of the villains.

According to the only report we've had regarding the reboot, that is exactly what WB execs want.

That would be AMAZING. Arkham City portrayed Batman perfectly. Extremely intelligent, a master detective, the peak of human physical ability and a master of martial arts and shadows. And of course...grim and tough with an opposing appearance and shadow.

Any word of who they are considering to direct it?

Maybe you should actually play the Arkham games, just so it appears that you have even a remote idea of what you are talking about.

I think it highly unlikely WB will actually make the reboot "lighter." Not when the Nolan movies made as much money as they did. The reboot will still be dark. It might have more fantastic elements, it might have a change of aesthetic, but its still going to be dark. The only reason that WB will change is if the reboot does poorly. *Then* they might change the tone.

I think it was Aronofsky mentioned by our source. Seems likely considering he was briefly considered for a Batman reboot before Nolan as well as Man of Steel.

I really hope that doesn't happen. Aronofsky's Batman movie sounded absolutely horrendous. He clearly had zero respect for the character.

That broken, flawed abortion of a project was never in actual danger of being made. WB just wanted to see how far they could go to the extreme opposite of Batman & Robin.

I wanna see Paul Dini to write the reboot, with Guillermo Del Torro directing.

this! but Del Toro has so much on his plate right now i really doubt he'd have the time to direct a Batman movie. besides, i'd rather have At The Mountains of Madness & Hellboy 3 first.

I'd like to see more of a high tech comic book Batman universe, something that could more easily lend itself to a world where Superman and other characters exist. I hate to bring up the most overrated Batman story arc ever, but the way Batman and Gotham appear in the Hush storyline, I think, could lend itself easily to a movie (though I'm not in any way suggesting they adapt that story because it sucks). Batman is still a hardnosed SOB and the tone is very serious, but the environment is very high tech with a lot of sci-fi elements. Sort of like Iron Man, only darker and more serious. I think that is the way to go.

We've had gothic Batman (Burton), realistic Batman (Nolan) and whimsical acid trip Batman (Schumacher). I'd like to see high-tech, sci-fi Batman because I think it opens the door to Justice League and/or Worlds Finest.

ATTENTION: The rumor about WB's "no jokes" policy is 100% correct. No one should ever doubt any rumor about any upcoming movie, even in cases where it contradicts rumors that have previously been reported. In those cases, both rumors are true.

In other news, Bryan Cranston is playing Lex Luthor, Emily Blunt is Wonder Woman, Benedict Cumberbatch is Martian Manhunter, and that guy from Teen Wolf is Batman.

maybe. if they're ****ing dumb. now, I'm not a hater of those films, i think "camp" has its place in batman lore, but with Man of Steel, i thinking going in that direction would be a terrible idea, which is why i think they'd think about it.

so whenever the next batman film will be it will have to start all over again? I was a bit surprised that the actor who played in Superman Returns wasn't going to be in the Man of Steel.

what's your idea for the next batman film?

I rather they dont reboot batman and just tie him into jla then to a movie of his own. It could even work with a batman appearance in a MOS sequel. I dont need to see another batman origin film.
