Practically nobody covers floods or "acts of God" (except for FEMA). How could insurance go up?

Because the flood plains change, therefore the maps change, therefore flood insurance is needed on homes that didn't need it before. It happens almost every hurricane or tropical storm around here. And in some areas, insurance companies pull out altogether.

Insurance in Houston for State Farm and AllState went up across the board after Ike, and in some areas they pulled out altogether, which was more of a surge Hurricane than wind Hurricane. So it does happen...

That's if municipalities and stated require that you carry flood insurance. Otherwise there is no obligation for anyone to insure their home (especially if they haven't seen a flood in almost 100 years). It seems like only large businesses definitely were covered in this case (they can afford to pay the premiums for it), but it seems like the insurance industry will be able to manage any losses they see from this storm (they hedged their bets with offshore credit default swaps -- sound familiar?).

So where are all the Neo-Keynesians now? Shouldn't they be celebrating over Hurricane Sandy? It raises the GDP and will definitely boost spending. Rebuild infrastructure no? Maybe we need more Hurricanes to stimulate the economy? Isn't this basis of the stimulus and Obama saving us from the Depression?

First of all, we shouldn't be celebrating in the midst of tragedy. That is low class (and was one of the reasons the New York Marathon was canceled). Secondly, this guy is an idiot:

You're mad because this "tragedy" (how the hell do you prevent acts of nature? With carbon credits?) exposes the assine nature of the theory. Krugman and his acolytes should be cheering at the economic stimulation. The Hurricane destruction will technically "improve the economy" by raising GDP and spending. Hence the ever popular broken window fallacy and wealth destruction.

I never said that I was mad. I just said the guy was an idiot. Like I said before, no one should be cheering in the midst of tragedy, but I will make one exemption if it is to encourage people to get back up and rebuild. The main impetus of the argument of folks like Krugman, Reich, and others is that economic stimulus does serve to help the economy. They don't anticipate acts of nature since they are unpredictable as well as unreliable as far a stimulus goes. What is more important here is that there be a coordinated effort to help people in the aftermath of a disaster and with the efforts that FEMA, the state and local governments and the first responders it can be clearly seen that we do need government involved.

Unemployment can be caused for various reasons in Canada, the price for post secondary school have been increasing; keeping some students from even having the opportunity to attend. Although OSAP, grants, loans and bursaries can help the student, its not always enough. OSAP especially can be difficult in some families to pay back.
Another factor, especially for the generation of students just starting post secondary education now, is that there is a lack of of availability out there once we are to finish school. This generation is large, as once the baby boom generation. Although yes, many of them will begin to retire it is the older students in our generation that will reap the benefits.what you think what is the reason of unemployment in your country????
