I would say they do, yeah. It's about who people would recognise the characters as. Even if they used a character called "WolveRyan" who had claws and a gruff attitude, Fox could put the kibush on that.

I'm not 100% certain though but I'ld say that's it.

The contracts are for specific numbers of films. There is zero obligation for anyone to be on TV.

Fox has the TV rights, which is why they could sue marvel circa Mutant X. Sony just recently sold the Spidey TV rights for additional movie rights. It's unclear whether that's for animation (Marvel made the Ultimate Spider-Man show, not Sony) or if it also applies to live action, and if not, can Marvel use Spider-Man on TV without being accused of sabotaging Sony's Spidey movies.

i'd like to know what the rules for television are... because marvel owns the animated TV shows... which include the fantastic four and x-men and spider-man... so i wonder if it's all television... or just animation?

Eddie Murphy's done TV animation at least with the PJ's. I think he voiced Thurgood Stubbs for every episode except I think some of the later ones.

Eh, what'd be the point of having a character make an appearance if they have nothing to do in the being told in the episode? I'd prefer not seeing Iron Man at all rather than just having him make random cameos for no good reason other than a cheap attempt to try to drive up ratings. If this show's going to be good then it has to be good on its own merits. It can't be about the five-second cameos of movie characters.

You do understand the point of a cameo right? Cameo = fan service. The show is going to be good on it's own merits regardless, so I don't see how having a cameo changes that. Stan Lee cameoing for no good reason doesn't take away from any of the movies he's been in does it?

Let's just make a scenario where SHIELD is in mid-season and you're currently watching the best episode you've ever seen. All of a sudden you see Iron Man flying by in the background. Now, tell me the truth, does that cameo at all take away from the episode's awesomeness or does it just make you happy that it's icing on the cake? If you chose the first one then I feel sad for your life.

To me, I think the smart way would be to run it like any spy/task-force show, of which there are many, and just hint at weirdness, and slowly bring it in, LOST-style.

I'd like to see the show in a X-File style in which there's a ongoing story but also have stand alone episodes dealing with Meta-Human activity and rouge science in scientists and others are always trying to recreate the superhuman/Super-Soldier and having drastic results that SHEILD has go out to investigate, handle and clean up

I think Dum Dum would work in a flashback episode, training Coulson or Sitwell, or both. At over 100, it really isn't feasible for him to be in action currently... but it could be pretty cool if, say, he was an old guy playing chess in the park that Cap occassionally sat down with. Not sure Neal McDonough would enjoy all those prosthetics.

I think that would also make for a better story than retconning in some way for him to be young in the present.

my best guess is that it premiers Fall of 2014 (allowing the first season to finish before Avengers 2) and you can logically assume that the DVD/blu ray will be released roughly a year later. Summer of 2015?

ehh... I mean I hope thats the case, but it probably won't start production until after production on Thor:TDW starts, so having its release prior to TDW seems unlikely.

EDIT: oops TDW has already started production, my bad. still Fall of 2013 seems like a stretch. we can cross our fingers though!
