I was truly shocked to learn of his demise. I thought that guy would be here long after all the rest of us had left, like roaches after a nuclear holocaust. But apparently he got into a fight on the X-films/Wolverine forum and started insulting people for their opinions and taste in films. In other words, the usual. It's still shocking that he got cashiered for that because it was his MO the entire time he was here. On topic: One thing I hope the writers do is flesh out the backgrounds of the characters. The characters have clean slates to start with, so the writers won't be constrained in creating their histories. Coulson, in particular, needs to have a realistic life story created. He has been in four movies and two short films, yet all we know about him personally is that he dated a cellist who left him for some reason. Since he is the lead character, we should get to know who he is, where he comes from and what motivates him. All of the characters need to be compelling, really, for the show to work.

Dalton is good looking, at least, and hopefully he can act. He has kind of a thin resume so I can't tell whether he's done any quality work. One article said he was in Army Wives, Blue Bloods and Killing Lincoln, but beyond that his IMDB page is rather empty.

I was looking over those character descriptions again and Skye sounds like some genki anime character to me. Like Haruhi or something.

I dunno. Is Edgar Wright working on it at all in any capacity?

Fall, pretty much. They're shooting in January, everyone's real excited about it. Fall.
I'm looking forward to seeing how they'll deal with Skye. I can kinda already tell she'll be my favorite.

I was really hoping for a JJ/Alias detective procedural show. I guess she could be a recurring character along with Luke Cage. And Squirrel Girl of course.

I kind of appreciate that none of the regulars are Whedon alums

I'm glad for that, too, and hope that it stays that way. With the last role being a female, there's always the possibility of one of the usual suspects turning up. At the very least, the actress chosen is likely to be dark haired, light on talent and destined for a career that stays mired in short-lived TV shows, like a few of Whedon alums whom I could name.

Yeah its strange that despite Whedon's affinity for female leads, his male castmembers tend to be the more talented actors. SMG, Dushku, Willow, Charisma, Darla, Baccarin (she got better btw), Kayley, none of them are much above average talent-wise or "presence"-wise. It worked because of the writing and because, in some cases, the characters werent a huge stretch from the actors personas.
The male actors, maybe because many were older than the girls, tended to be of a higher caliber. Of course many of the recurring male roles were played by seasoned character actors so I guess it makes sense that they would be more impressive. To be fair, the only male actors who have gone on to bigger and better things are Boreanaz and Fillion, and Fillion barely counts. Baccarin, because shes so damn striking physically, and because shes improved a bit, probably will have a good career playing SO's in tv and non-tentpole movies. Keep in mind, this isn't fully a Joss Whedon TV Show. He's developing it, and directing the pilot, but the actors and actresses will be working with Jed and Marissa from there on out, so being in with Joss doesn't mean much.
Still, I could see Glau as Skye. I like her work, and it seems up her alley, so to speak. Summer, River, Skye, very hippie-simpatico. Still, for Joss guest-directing stints, it'd be fun to see the old gang(s) again.

I'm sad that Baccarin never got to play Maria Hill though. He could've gone with one of his female leads from before, but instead he went with Robin Scherbatsky. I think Baccarin would've looked more visually striking in the Avengers too, especially contrasted with ScarJo. Cobie is attractive but probably doesn't look that striking amidst everyone else in the movie.
Wouldn't mind seeing Amy Acker as someone. Don't really want to see Eliza turning up though, nor SMG. I'm hoping Jasper Sitwell will show up and have scenes with Coulson.

He's producing and I'm pretty sure he'll have helped them out with the overall structure of the first season.
Which makes it as much of a Whedon show as his other work He was doing three shows at once at one point, he hasn't been the day-to-day showrunner on the majority of stuff people associate with him And I think we'll see a SMG-esque young blonde actress in the Skye role. Not one of Whedon's 30-or-40-something regulars. The description basically read as "Buffy as a SHIELD agent" |

Yeah a petite blonde/redhead is likely in the cards. Hopefully shes got more range than Ms. Gellar.

I hope that some of these characters will actually cameo in Avengers 2, just like we would see crewmembers from Star Trek DS9 or Voyager in the Next Gen movies. I liked how the movies and the series were connected, and I see it being the same here.
I also wouldn't mind Amanda Righetti showing up, because they haven't followed through on her character yet from the end of CA:TFA. I hope that wasn't the extent of her role. It's not like she has a massive role on The Mentalist either. She could still do the odd guest slot.

How are they going to do it.
Without Superheroes??? I bet. A glorified CSI.

I guess SHIELD will basically sell itself after The Avengers instead of a new show
