I'm having fun with this one. Having to build satellites and such to win is a pain though.

That feel when you lose a soldier who's been on 4 missions and killed 9 aliens. All because I felt like going in the opposite direction of extraction to kill 2 sectoids during an escort mission. Ugh.

That said I really hate how panic works in this game. My sniper can't hit s**t, but when he panics he has no problem picking off squad members from across the map. WTF.

Victor and Scott save the world in XCOM: Enemy Unknown

October 17 – Reviews on the Run – Full Show

Shaun and Marissa offer up their Xbox picks, Valve unleashes the Steam Big Picture, take to the track with F1 2012, E.T. phones home on Blu-ray, and save the world in XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

Vic made a comment on how it reminded him of Advance wars.
Scott and vic repelled the aliens in XCOM: Enemy Unknown, great turn base strategy for the consoles but there are some control issue's. A nice change of pace from cod and others like it that bring in variety as they said . Vic's score is a 8.5 and Scott's is a 7.5.

It's fantastic.

After several attempts last night I finally got through a really tough mission, but I lost three of my best guys. :[

I'm really looking forward to getting this, it's next on my list. I read last night that you can name your soldiers, which really appeals to me. I also read that you're likely to get to a point where you just can't win on your first play through, like the learning curve is pretty steep. None the less, I'm pretty excited!

Firaxis hit the deployment hangar for its DLC plans rather fast with its announcement of the Slingshot mission pack yesterday, but it’s yet to give a go-ahead for full modding support. Speaking to Joystiq, Firaxis Producer Garth DeAngelis stated modding wasn’t one of their “core pillars” during development.

Wow, even better than I expected. Such a neat change of pace from other games on the market. Love the detail.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown Warspace Extension mod rebalances darn near everything

Taken out of context, “Warspace Extension” sounds like the subject of a cheeky spam email to a military general. For XCOM: Enemy Unknown commanders, it’s the name of a mod overhauling weapons, enemies, armor, squad performance, and practically everything else housed beneath Firaxis’ turn-based Sectoid-slayer. Commence Operation: Righteous Replay.

Yeah, one of the big reasons I love this game (aside from it being awesome) is that it's so different from anything else out there right now.

If you haven't played it and you have a PS3, I would highly recommend Valkyria Chronicles. It's very similar to XCOM in a lot of ways.

I'm on Xbox, but I'm playing it right now and I would buy a squeal in a heart beat! When all my best soldiers were injured, I sent a bunch of rookies on tough mission and the sons of *****es made it all through with a 100% kill rate and not a single injury between them! So satisfying.

I really love the tactical maneuvering, learning what works and what doesn't, utilizing each unit's strengths. Makes winning so much more fulfilling than just shooting everyone because you have to use your head!

I'm kind Expecting the same out of the shooter( in the use your head department) now that it's gone third person and will have some elements of the Mass effect series game play wise. But that's another story all together. Any way glad to see your enjoy this game.

You should check out this guy's Impossible/Ironman playthrough. Not only is it informative but it's pretty funny and he edits out a lot of the downtime. The only downside is his upload schedule is erratic but there are 5 episodes up right now.

VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:

Haha! "The official Will Smith welcome to erf first blood medal". Great stuff. I don't think I'll ever play on Impossible, it would frustrate me too much, but that guy's damn good!

One thing I've really enjoyed, which I touched on earlier, is learning through trial and error. For example when I first began, I'd pretty much rush everyone almost right up the center of the map. Now I do it in tiny stages and pair everyone off, two go up the middle and two more either side. It's proven much more effective.

I still need to work on my building entry. A recent mission saw two of my soldiers bumble into a door way, get surrounded and have to retreat back outside. I was successful in the end, I got some back up to run over and stood in the door way systematically neutralizing the enemy, but I could have done without the bumble to begin with.

In both cases I'm definitely learning to let the aliens come to you, rather than rushing around and tripping over them.

THE BEST TURN BASED GAME EVER!
Me and my best friend have been playing on classic/ironman for 2 weeks, its frustratingly awesome!

We only get 2 months in before the squad gets rolled up, but we keep coming back for more.
I f'n love this game.

Been kicking ass lately. Got through a really tough terror mission without a single injury, and I had the squad spread real thin too. My jets leave a lot to be desired as they rarely shoot down anything, but my troops are the stuff of legend throughout the galaxy.

Urgh, I really screwed the pooch on my first game. Too late did I realize I need to get satellite uplinks up and running pronto, I've lost like 3-4 countries.

Satellites and research are craaaaazy important. I was fortunate to know that before going in though, so I only lost India and Mexico.

Always race for beam weapons immediately and always have a satellite being built, and don't launch any unless you're a couple days away from a council meeting coz that's the only time countries can back out.

Anyway, first time I beat the game, final death count with details of how they died,

Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:

  • Cpl. Varsha went into critical condition. She had the med kit, which meant I had to deal with three floaters and two sectoids to save her life in three turns or less with a squad of 4. The last enemy went down on the last move of my last turn and I breathed a sigh of relief... but the mission didn't end. Varsha died. I moved two squares forward to reveal the last ninja sectoid hiding in the fog.

  • Sgt 'Thunder' got out of the med bay after 18 days... I placed her up against some heavy cover... I didn't realize the tank was on fire and the explosion killed her.

  • Lt 'Double Down' attracted a cyberdisc that floated on right up next to him and sent him into critical condition. I figured I could deal with the cyberdisc before going to revive him, so I did, and only as it was dying I remembered that they explode.

  • Cpt. 'Mack' was scouting forward during a terror mission. He ran into some Chrysalids near 2 civilians. Instead of pulling back, I had him run forward to save the 2 civies and he threw a grenade at the pack of aliens. He got turned into a zombie and I had to gun him down.

  • Cpt. 'Moose' was unfortunate enough to get hit with a double grenade combo from a squad of Mutons.

  • Maj. 'Padre' got nailed by a thin man overwatch trying to sprint to a flanking position.

Such an amazing game.
