In the spirit of TDKR, what would you say are the best third movies of all time?

I never understood why people like Ultimatum so much.
I loved the first Bourne movie, but after that, he just seemed to be running around aimlessly. |

I wouldn't say it's one of THE greatest, but I do love Mission Impossible 3.
It's still the best of the series, IMO.

Another Thin Man is awesome.
That's probably the greatest yet never talked about film franchise around.

Most third movies tend to be the weakest.
Contrary to popular belief, the trilogy concept isn't necessarily a good one. Only a few people can pull it off. Just look at X-Men, Terminator, and Spider-man. Third movie did a number on the franchise. Or if they're not outright bad, they're simply inferior to the sequel. Like Return of the Jedi, Toy Story 3 and the Dark Knight Rises. Again, that's not to say they're bad films, they're just not better than the first sequel, which was itself (probably) much better than the original. And then you have a rarer few that are actually better than the first sequel. Some because all the movies were good, like Return of the King. And some because the first sequel was inferior, like Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Revenge of the Sith (not that it's a good movie, but it sure was better than Attack of the Clones). Those are rare though. Obviously your mileage may vary. |

Three Colors: Red bears repeating.
Looking at "franchises" in the broad sense, let me throw a shout out to Eric Rohmer's My Night at Maud's (the third of his Six Moral Tales). Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was an important step forward in that series as well. |

1. TDKR
2. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End 3. Return of the King 4. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban 5. Revenge of the Sith TG, TB & TU was the first Eastwood western I saw, but it wasn't for me. I really liked Unforgiven, though I think that one's a standalone.
