doubt it if they had no plans to move forward anytime soon i think they would of given up right to galactus and SS

i think this will happen because they all ready lost daredevil and wouldnt give up silver surfer and galactus.so fox only has xmen left with ff they want to have some comicbook properties so marvel doesnt gobble them all up.warner has batman and superman sony spiderman so fox want to be in the game.i say 2015 it will be out

so they could keep a movie they cared less about? FOX isn't known for just letting go of rights... they have a history of fighting tooth and nail.

Watchmen was a prime example because they had no desire to make a film.. and sat on it for ages... until of course WB started making it

Harking back to a previous Reed Richards casting suggestion on here - finally got around to watching The Crazies. I know I was for the idea before, but it's made me even more convinced that Tim Olyphant would make a great Mr Fantastic.

But does Fox want to make a movie, or do they want a check? Given the lack of movement on the project, the large box office drop off in both the Spider-man and X-Man reboots, and the disappointing box office results of the FF sequel, my strong suspicion is that Fox is keeping the project alive in order to get a payout from Disney.

I think you're probably right, but while we may not know the deadline, we know that there is one. It seems that, at most, they've got a year or two to either start production or see the rights go back to Marvel.

So that at least kills the possibility that we'll be waiting another 10 years (unless Marvel gets them back and just sits on them - which I don't think is likely).

We certainly haven't seen any clear evidence to the contrary. Talk is cheap and all they've been doing so far is talking.

rights wont go back soon imo last F4 film came out in 2007

if fox was able to hold on to DD 9 years after affleck's DD i think they have plenty of time

Elektra came out in 2005 and based on Fox comments regarding Silver Surfer and how a stand-alone Surfer film would have extended their FF rights, it's reasonable to assume that the DD rights were similarly extended by Elektra. That means (assuming the agreement was the same and, if anything, I'd think the FF rights might be stricter) Fox probably has about 2 years or less to start production.

i do think that F4 is one property that Marvel would make a priority... because they spawn off so much more as well

it's pretty common knowledge that Elektra is a Daredevil sequel/spin-off which DOES renew the rights.. so it's terribly inaccurate to say 9 years since DD .. when it's not DD that started the clock, but Elektra.

don't let that one inaccurate source who said "fox still has elektra" throw you off... that's the only source of that info and it's completely inaccurate.

I'd like for Doom to be saved for a sequel but implied throughout the first. honestly, I think a good way to go for a first movie is to have the fantastic four already have their powers, having gone into the asteroid belt and been exposed to an unknown energy before the events of the movie, and have that movie begin with them going back into space to investigate the origin of the energy, finding a portal device into the negative left by the kree and have the film be a sort of lost in space type adventure with them escaping the N-zone but finding themselves on the kree planet and caught in the kree/skrull war. a true space Odyssey type film.

well damn lol. ya know, I'm of the camp that really doesn't care whether or not fantastic four goes back to marvel or not, providing FOX can deliver a film with the care and passion they put into their old 80's science fiction films. but it would be easier in terms of what would be at their disposal story wise if it did go back to marvel, like the kree and skrull and namor for example.

That's the key point. As long as I can make the leap of faith that Fox will decide to invest what they need to, sure, they're just as capable as anyone of making a kick-ass film.

But Fox has shown a history of not treating comic book properties like 'real films'. They take short cuts and try to suck the money out of the dedicated fans without investing the way other studios have chosen to.

It seems that I may have no choice but to wait and hope Fox has seen the errors of their ways, but if I had anything to say about it, I'd rather have a studio that has shown the proper dedication to these properties take charge.
