wow... heated keanu reeves debate on here. haaaa.

i personally like him... anybody who says he can't act probably hasn't seen the devil's advocate. he might be able to pull it off, but he's definitely not a good pick for reed richards.

Keanu Reeves can act. He doesn't always, but he can. He's not right for this, though.

YAAAAAS! Speak that word!

Dale Dehaan would definitely make the film a lot better, and allow Johnny to be interesting without having to age him up so he can be Top Gun.

Especially when translating from one visual medium to another.

Jon Hamm is the best Reed I've seen mentioned so far, so I compare each possibility to him. Reeves doesn't really come close for me.

I considered him because of the Trank connection. I think he could possiby do it, but he'd have to have matured some (which I'm sure he has) and I still think there are probably better options out there.

Eh I liked him in Chronicle but not really a good choice for Human Torch for me. Still looks too teenager-like and a bit mopey looking.

Maybe he can play Victor in flashbacks.

He would be better in a "Children of the Corn" movie...creepy looking.

Just for the record, I'm really upset that teenager-like can be considered a reason someone shouldn't play Johnny Storm.

The thing is teenager-like has been done really annoyingly as of late and most people are sick of it. It seems you can't be a teenager without angst these days.

Yeah, I don't like the older casts everyone keeps asking for. I'd be fine with a 17 year old for Johnny as long as it's the right 17 year old.

If done right, we should get a trilogy at the least which would put somebody who starts at 17 into his mid to late 20's by the end of the series.

Johnny 17, Sue 22, Reed and Ben 30-32 would work well for me in the first movie and very few of the actors being suggested are in that age range.

Agreed. I don't think DeHaan's age bothers me as much as his personality (based on the one role I've seen him in). I won't say he can't do it because I don't really know what he can or can't do, but he'd have to be a very different character than he was in Chronicle.

There's a lot of things about Chronicle that don't jibe with my expectations of a F4 franchise.

Robert Downey was 43 when IRON MAN was released - which seemed a little 'old' but that worked out just fine, so an age appropriate Reed and Ben in their early 40's should not be a problem, either.

While a film franchise takes several years between them to finish the actor or "character" doesn't age accordingly as there is always make-up and lighting that slows down, so to speak, the actor's actual age. That's why I think most people want someone like Reed already being the elder statesman type of the Marvel U and be around his 40's sooner more than later.

There is a very good reason not to cast a 17 year old Johnny Storm: because it practically relegates the kid to being a kid sidekick, rather than allowing him to bring his own competencies to the table. This is a problem, because most audiences aren't going to look too kindly on Reed Richards if he goes "Hey, Sue, lets bring your useless kid brother along on this dangerous activity!"

Because I don't see Johnny Storm as a teenager. He's college-aged at youngest.

I'm not sick of teenage superheroes, but I don't want a high school Human Torch.

I don't think DeHaan is right for the part at all, judging from the pictures I've seen.

That's why they're called....actors? Do you know how many good actors look angsty as **** when not on camera, yet they can pull off the goofiest, happiest looking ****ers ever?
