A lot of those guys who died for no ****ing reason in Iraq were individually worth 10,000 of the chickenhawks like Bush and Cheney who dodged harm's way themselves but had no problem sending kids to their deaths.

It's disgusting and they're rightfully war criminals, IMO.

But this is veering way off topic, so I'll just leave it at that.
it's contradiction in terms of being "pro-life" and being "pro death" at the same time...

and not to take the thread off topic so ill put it in a drop down ...
Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
My stance is pretty much the same on both, it's not black and white. Abortion should have a term limit... there's no reason for a woman to go through half her pregnancy and then suddenly decide to abort... it should be within the first 2-3 months at most as a time limit. Same goes with the death penalty.. alot of republicans come off very gun-ho about the death penalty.. and while i do agree it's a necessity.. punishment for crimes really should very.. does someone really need a 200 year prison sentence without parol? no.. they're a waste of tax payer money and space. But if someone is sentenced to murder for iffy circumstances, or without malicious intent (like a car accident, arguable self-defense, etc.. and have the potential to rehabilitate.. then sure, these people shouldn't be killed. That being said.. i do think prison should be a far more ghastly place... flat screen TVs, good food, etc.. should not be an option. Prison shouldn't be the lowest form of human existence... not a place to have a better life than you did before.

things just arn't as black and white as both parties like to make it seem

and i completely agree with you on the war comparison

that all being said.. and to bring it back to topic

this church being burned down here in ohio really bothers me , hopefully it's not a sign of things to come while this debate becomes more serious...

I don't see them as all that black and white.

I would say that there is a moral argument to be made against abortion (especially in the later stages of development). I've seen that argument made rather eloquently in a secular fashion.

The popular pro-life movement just makes the worst argument for it, by using religion, and bad science (comparing a fetus to an embryo). Not to mention their very strange (and I would argue counterproductive) views on contraception.

I have rather mixed views on the death penalty. Mostly because of people later found innocent being executed. But I'm really getting off topic now.

I don't see a contradiction between defending the right to life of an unborn fetus and supporting the death penalty for a convicted murderer. Completely different situations.

On topic, the church arson is bothersome.

...very sad news. If the person or persons responsible for this believe in a higher being, that higher being would definitely be ashamed.

Violence and destruction are not the answer.

i feel like they're the battered wives of politics... they keep running back to abuse. Yeah, i know the rep party has fallen apart and isn't what it was (i know a few gay rep who normally vote rep, but haven't for a while (they consider themselves morally liberal and fiscally conservative) but those log-cabiners who've put up with the way they're party is.. boggle my mind. I do not see how you can support a party when the majority does not support your right to living like a human being.

hopefully one day Megan McCain can rule the republican party.. she seems like the only one with sense

Probably because fiscally, and maybe somewhat socially, the side with the conservative ideals. Like small government.

And they're trying to work the system from the inside for social equality.

In one episode of The West Wing, Josh spends the entire episode debating gay issues with Republican Congressman Matt Skinner. At the end of the episode, Skinner tells Josh to stop beating around the bush, and ask the question he really wants to know: how Skinner can be gay and a Republican. The answer is that the Congressman agrees with the conservative stance on most issues, with gay issues being an exception. He also indicates that he hopes to change Republican attitudes toward gays by being a good soldier. He gets a little comeuppance when the majority leader (who Josh had cited as an active example of what he sees as the homophobia inherent in the Republican party) smarmily tries to patronize him with a pat on the back and a "Good job, Congressman" only for Skinner to give him the evil eye and snap back, "Take your hand off my shoulder, Congressman."

Me three. If I had to lie to a woman to entrap her in a sterile, loveless, shame-filled marriage in order to advance my career, it would totally be her.

.... You mean like a battered wife tries to hope her abusive husband changes??

Just sounds super counter productive to me

a battered wife doesn't fight back.

groups like GOProud do try using their money and influence to change things.

Unfortunately, they're not going to have much luck right now since the far right has hijacked the party.

It's fun talking to gay tow-the-line conservatives.

"Wow, I heard your colleague last night on the news compare us to animals and rapists."

"I, uh, tripped and fell into a door."

"Oh, that's too bad, I ... wait a minute!"

It all comes down to the voting to me with that though. you're not fighting back when voting for a politician who wants you treated like a lesser being... not voting for them but funding money to try to change would do a tad better

Well, it really depends what you consider conservative.

If you mean religious fundamentalism, then yeah, that's going to be hard to reconcile with being gay.

But a lot of positions now considered conservative (some for reasons, entirely arbitrary), like being pro gun rights, against abortion, etc, don't really conflict with gay rights.

but the majority of the people in charge are still voting against your rights.. I don't know about you guys.. but I'd gladly put my own rights ahead of my beliefs on guns and abortion.... I want to live like everyone else first... then I can focus on things like gun laws and such
