Prepare to be embarassed. It's really good though, really works out your core.

My friend swears by it. It's relaxing and works out your core a ton and improve your balance.

Depends on what you are looking for. I'm looking to build muscle and bone mass, so yoga isn't for me. But I think it might be good for my fragile mom, to help her balance. If she won't work out to build up her bones, at least she could learn not to fall.

That was me when I first started using those damned things! But I'm good on them now...

Going to try a pilates class next week. That should sort me out
Bit scared of it though. Never ever done anything like it before.

On a personal best note, my resting heart rate this morning was 48bpm \o/

How do you all deal with late night snacking, or trying not to?

I used to be a terrible late night snacker... Sometimes even getting out of bed at 3am to have a huge cheese sandwich.

The way I stay away from the fridge it is to recall a photograph I took of myself on the first day I went back to the gym (it was quite horrible). Then to take a look at how I am right now.

If that does not work and I just have to get in the fridge, I try to have a healthy snack, like an oat cracker with houmous.

100% agreed.
They have those "hot yoga" classes at my gym and my wife wants to try them, but none for me, thanks.

I skip meals for the other times of day that most people insist you have to eat.

Many times I will skip both breakfast and lunch, and then eat a normal dinner and late snack instead.

I count calories and macronutrient, not specific times. Perhaps your body is telling you when its prefered eating time is?

One thing I NEVER do is eat when I am not hungry.

Don't have snacks at home?

I'm already underweight so I eat whenever I am hungry (or sometimes not). When it's late at night and I want something to eat, it's like, "Oh right, there's nothing here to snack on. " Well, we have fruit and sometimes chocolate, but that's usually it. And copious amounts of either is not great for my stomach....I need to remember to get cereal or granola bars that I can munch on.

^I was gonna suggest just not having "snack food" in the house to tempt you but he didn't specify what type of food he was snacking on. Even if he's eating apples and avocado at midnight, if it'll push him over his calorie cap for the day, the damage is done.

Had a go at increasing my maximum squat weight today...

Managed 80kg (176 pounds) ten reps, with a body weight of 63Kg (140 pounds)

Didn't look like much, but definitely felt heavy!

Okay that is impressive... But I bet there is someone, just out of frame, that actually helped them get to that position!

I was under the impression that it is not a good idea to have anything that is heavy in carbohydrates late in the evening.

Great job!

That looks heavy to me!

Depends on the person. Do what works for you. If you gain or feel sluggish having heavy carbs late in the evening, don't do that.

I'm one of those freaks that can eat anything anytime (although I don't eat much at a time), and not gain. I'm more cut in the upper body than most of the big guys at the gym. It's a little frightening.

Couldn't agree more, you need to do what works for you, regardless of what the text books say.

I'm gradually getting my body fat percentage lowered. Over the last several weeks have gone from 19% to 16.5% With an ultimate goal of between 10-12%

One of the things I am doing is to not have anything carb heavy after 8pm. Also trying to keep my daily intake of fats and sugar lower than recommended daily amounts. This is where myfitnesspal comes in very handy.

At the same time, I am trying to replace the (slowly) dwindling fat with muscle, as I don't want to lose any more weight. Which I seem to be managing at the moment.

So I shall keep doing it until I either, get to where I want to be or it stops working. If the latter, then I'll try and think of something else!

restarted Les Mills Combat, just finished Day 5. I'm doing a lot better diet wise this time around and really making an effort to track my calories and what i'm eatin.

I only got to the gym once this week, but surprisingly, I was still able to make 5lb gains on everything. Setting my grip 1 inch wider on both sides for my squat has really made a difference in terms of shoulder strain. I'm now up to 115 lbs on squats and 130lbs on deadlifts. Although my deadlift form had turned to crap by rep 5, so I'll probably stick with doing that for the next couple of weeks.

What really makes a difference for me, is if I eat something 20 minutes before the workout. Trying to lift when I'm tired or hungry really DOES NOT work....
